Unless he came in out if shape.  But it didn't appear that way.
Zibanejad is a 20 year old that got outplayed and out worked by Da Costa.  Better or not.  Same with Pageau, he stole Zibanejad's 3rd line center position and did it through hard work and determination.  Da Costa is the 13th/14th forward who earned his spot this year with hard work on and off the ice.  Zibanejad by the sounds of it rested on the fact he played in the playoffs last year and was decent.  Hope he plays pissed off here on out because he took his spot for granted and it was taken away.  Tough break, suck it up and work your way back.  Simple as that.
Yeah, DaCosta is not even the issue here. It's Pageau making Zibanejad look disappointing. If Zibanejad looks even close to having Pageau's compete level and hunger, he stays even as an extra body. He cut himself from the team pretty much.
Nobody else on the team has that except the little guys. They need to have that to make it.

The team was made worse today. But oh well, he'll be back very soon.

I wouldn't want Mika to stay as an extra body.
Agreed. So it's not perfect but when you consider all the moving parts here, it's just as well that he goes to the AHL and plays big, important minutes. Meantime, DaCosta gets dealt or they give up and waive him and Zibanejad comes back.
Is everyone dismissing the possibility Da Costa might actually be ready for the NHL this time around and has turned the corner?

I'm certainly not because I've said from the beginning you don't waive the guy and you sacrifice (temporarily) a guy you can waive until the matter is settled.

By the way, how much better has Turris looked than young DaCosta?

A lot. Turris has been stellar in both ends of the rink.

Meh, apples and oranges there. Turris line has looked pretty solid for the most part.

Maybe, maybe not. Da Costa has earned the chance to prove he is or isn't an NHLer. Zibanejad had problems in this camp and again, it's a message that is being sent to him by the team, he absolutely was playing like he was on the team already.

Well nobody - and I mean nobody - thought he was battling for any spot. Everyone talked as if he had a spot locked up and it was just a matter of centre or wing. Can't blame the kid when guys like Ryan look like Dung. But he is on an ELC and anything can happen.

Nobody thought he would ever be sent down.

Which is probably the problem right there. Too many people telling him how good he is when technically he hasn't done a whole lot in professional hockey if we are being honest. But you can blame the kid because he believed his own hype which is a problem.

So with Lazar right now we are still at 23 men aren't they? Correct me if I am wrong there.

Where has the final roster been set? Has Boroweicki gone back as well?

Also, as of yet I have heard very few people put any blame on Zibanejad for forcing the Sens to make this decision. Does he not have to be the least bit accountable?

No, I agree but Mac worked well with him last year and there's no reason at all to think out coach wouldn't have gotten him on the right path very quickly. It's not the worst thing to happen, I'll admit that luke seems very capable of grooming young players, but I really thought the grooming was done with z.

Generally speaking he made the team if he wasn't sent to the prospect tourney. And guys who make the team are usually not giving 100% effort in pre-season

He's been avoiding the AHL since drafted and the team has pretty much complied so far. A couple of dozen meh AHL games so far? A little more grooming wouldn't hurt.

Again, this is probably the only chance they have to send a message that doesn't hurt the player or team that if you don't work, you won't play. He probably had the exact same mind set as all the fans, "I've made it". Well clearly he hasn't. Pageau took his spot.
