It's a joke that we even give it a TLA, like the CTC.

RCR is a joke, I don't think it even meets what OLG hopes to accomplish, a big casino at CTC would.

No idea what he hopes to accomplish with his comments though. If he wants to sue or otherwise prove that city council is crooked with their sole sourcing he can go right ahead.

Speaking on the Sportsnet Radio The Fan 590 in Toronto Tuesday night, the Senators owner told the station he’s just “getting warmed up” in his fight to get a fair bid to get a casino and fired darts at Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.

“The Mayor,” said Melnyk. “I don’t know what planet he has flown in from ... His deputy mayor Steve Desroches says in a big big meeting, ‘There’s too much competition in the world right now.’

“I said, ‘You know what, they should have named Neptune after you because that’s where you belong. What did you just say. Tell me again how you got elected.’ At the end of the day, it’s all going to come out. You can’t get away with that.”
Asked if the place is a dump, Melnyk said: “I wouldn’t go there without an army.”

Melnyk maintained Rideau Carleton “is a little tiny ‘C’ track that wouldn’t even make it in the Idaho State fair.”

Man I'm on Eugene's side, but he's gotta be more mature than that. That was brutal and doesn't put him in a better light with the public

He called Lansdowne a "gift to insiders." Laugh1 Awesome. That's how I've felt about that situation all along.

Eugene is an idiot. Our council is rife with idiots. As has become apparent, it's a great combination.

I hope Melnyk sues.. He will win where FOL failed. I think they will discover something underhanded in Council's decision.

Now OLG may actually turn down Council's proposal as it is not in OLG's best interest as it would not draw the gambling dollars from Lac Leamy... which is OLG's reason for a Casino in Ottawa.

Now this City Council and other businessmen are going to China.. on our tax dollars -- to drum up business & tourism. What a waste of tax dollars and time. They wouldn't know a business deal if it bit them in the Donkey..

When was the last time a businessmen not living or born in Ottawa got any type of big business deal with this City Council...

They didn't do their due diligence in way of economic assessments on the Casino or anything.

You would think they would have at least talked to OLG to see if a Casino not at RCR could still financially support the horse racing. Since it would have been in Ottawa -- I would have assumed the answer would have been yes.

Then the Council could have let Melnyk bid.. given the large amount of tax dollars and jobs created .. and Watson could still have his horse racing. Apparently, I read this in a comment on the Ottawa Sun.. so take it for what it is worth. BUT the land around RCR is owned by someone connected to the Chiarelli's...

Should declare horse racing as being cruelty to animals and get rid of this archaic spectacle. I went to a horse race once in my life. I was about 8 or 9 and my dad took me. In Moscow. It may well have been harness racing. I think that may have been the first (and last) time my dad ever went.

Back in the '70s in Montreal they had a race track on Jean Talon. Pretty sure it was torn down decades ago. And that's prime location, too. I cannot imagine the kinds of people who actually make it out to a place like RCR -- what for? Is it because of gambling? Aren't there easier way to lose a buck?

Whoa whoa whoa... I am fully aware the harness racing is dying and on it's last legs in Ottawa but my family has owned horses for a long time and they are treated better than 90% of the human beings on this planet. My earliest memories are of me feeding horses, being on the harness, and generally around the sport.

Yah, gambling on the races is part of it but that's done for the most part. People who really want to gamble have other means now. Again it's dying but that's a pretty broad generalization of the people who are both financially and emotionally invested.

Not saying harness racing is cruel to horses (I'd say dressage is way worse), but in this PC world just a hint of animal cruelty would shut it down.

Honestly, who will miss it? And don't say the people in it, because if this "industry" needs money from other forms of gambling just to make it then, sorry, move on. There are lots of industries no-longer around.

Well the only answer is the people in it... and even then I think most know it's dying and close to dead. Sucks IMO but it is what it is, no getting around it.

Melnyk went and said something like 'I'm proud of the maple leafs for being competitive' or something to that extent. I'm not too pleased with that, especially when it's done in a radio interview thrashing the ottawa council and parts of the city like RCR.

This melnyk vs City of Ottawa thing....it's on the verge of becoming a distraction now.

He shut his wife up, according to The Dandyman.
