I don't see how anyone could argue that Clarkson isn't a good hockey player...pretty sure any team in the league would take him. That said, he'll most definitely get overpaid. Still, a good player that I'd take in a second.

That said... at what cost? 6 mil a year for a guy like that is a huge overpayment. If they are intending to land Clarkson then there is NO QUESTION Alfie will be coming back.

There's an element of buyer beware, but you're acquiring him for more than just popping in goals. Not sure he's our 'guy', but we could do a lot worse.

Surely he can't ask for 6 million, surely. 4.5 is the max I'd pay for him, maybe 5, maybe, but more than that is garbage.

If you are going to pay him what he will get on the market he damn well better put in goals, lots of them. He had one crazy good year that was nothing like his past seasons (he is 29).
Anyone who signs him for a lot of money and term is an idiot.

Or sometimes they have one lucky year where the puck just seems to go in as well.
He came back down quite a lot this year, and players usually put up their best numbers in contract years.
Plus he is 29, forwards are already past their peak at that age.
