I don't see how anyone could argue that Clarkson isn't a good hockey player...pretty sure any team in the league would take him. That said, he'll most definitely get overpaid. Still, a good player that I'd take in a second.

I like Clarkson a lot and any team that lands him is getting a very good hockey player that is hell to play against. That said... at what cost? 6 mil a year for a guy like that is a huge overpayment. If they are intending to land Clarkson then there is NO QUESTION Alfie will be coming back.

Exactly. What ever teams signs him will be a better team that day.

Surely he can't ask for 6 million, surely. 4.5 is the max I'd pay for him, maybe 5, maybe, but more than that is garbage.

He can ask and I think he will get it. It's free agency, the players are always overpaid.

About a million more than Bickell would be fair. Still, I don't think I'd sign him for more than 3 or 4 years regardless.

also you're saying he had one crazy good year, but was on pace for 26 goals this year. That's valuable for everything else he brings.

I think 5mil x 5-6 years for Clarkson is about right all things considered. I would rather get 20 goals a year from Clarkson then 30 from Ryder when you take into account the rest of the game. I don't think Clarkson has 5 years left in him though but the next 3 I believe he would be worth every single penny. The trade off for signing Clarkson will be term and the Sens being in the division they are in, there are way worse players you can sign.

How is going down 4 goals and 5 points "coming back down quite a bit"? His team is also a defensive team with awful depth.

Not all forwards are past their peak at that age.
