Heh.

Radek Bonk's Mullet ‏@BonksMullet

Asked what he did to earn $750,000 more than Karlsson per year, Kris Letang simply pointed at Marc Andre Fleury.

A PPG winger with $5 x 5 left on his contract?  It would take a bit more than a 3rd and a top-end prospect.

And they got him for Goligoski Facepalm

What...? You have to be drunk.

He may have been thinking of RFA compensation -- 1st and 3rd for a contract up to slightly over $5M. If you equate "high-end prospect" to a 1st rounder.

Sorry, high-end prospect not someone like Da Costa, etc. Perhaps a Silfverberg, Zibanejad, Greening, etc.

Pitt has ~$45M tied up in 7 players. They will need cap relief, especially if they expect to improve while having Fleury at $5M per year for another two seasons.

A lot of available goalies and I'm not sure who's crazy enough to pick up Fleury after his last two playoff performances.

Again... are you drunk? That high end prospect would be Zibanejad.

That is assuming Letang isn't a sign-and-trade candidate which given his new deal could very well be the case.

Even if it's Zibanejad how can you not take a chance on a guy like Neal for a 3rd and someone who has a high ceiling but has yet to develop into a star - and could very well not develop into a star...

All this to say Murray has a ton of high-potential prospects in the system and for them to take the next step, they'll need to make a move to address their top-six holes.

Zibanejad as it stands now doesn't have a top-six position slated as it is. Between Greening, Hoffman, Puempel, Noesen, Grant, Conacher, Stone, Prince, Cowick you have to assume one or two of those guys can factor into the top-six within the next two/three seasons.

Zibanejad is too good to be a third-line player on this team, and his value now is at an all-time high. Given the financial constraints of some of these teams the value of Zib grows even higher considering he can be an impact player at a relatively cheap cost. For now anyway

Dude, they are trying to build a contender not worry about who's value is how high and who teams want. They are going after what they want and they want Monahan.

part of building a contender is acquiring pieces that will help the team out long-term. While I agree Monahan would be an unbelievable addition to this team, Ottawa needs to add pieces now as much as they need to add pieces for their future.

If Monahan doesn't make the Sens out of camp this year he is basically rookie of the year the year after. Monahan is a franchise changing player. Adding Monahan is adding a player now.

At what cost? What would trade to move up to get him? I'm assuming you think he'll be available at #7 with Edmonton's pick?

You'd need to trade with Carolina and then you're giving up Cowen

Nope, I think he's gone at 5 no matter what. Depends how they feel about their defence as individuals. If they think Wiercioch is going to be top 4 I would part with Cowen... if interally they don't have that kind of faith in Wiercioch then you are looking at the 17th, next years 1st, and at least Weircioch.

Thus far Cowen is all potential and has a history of injuries... tough call.
