Some interesting RHS options there... Zidlicky, Corvo, Gilbert, Kostka, Blum, White. We just need someone to challenge Gryba for that #4 spot and, if we're lucky, provide a little offense.

I would throw Sanguinetti in there as well. He's much more of a risk than any of those guys, but he'll make less as well, and could still payoff. He does have untapped offensive ability, and could, potentially, do really well in Maclean's system.

Money out:

Gonchar: $5,000,000
Regin - $800,000
Benoit - $900,000
Alfredsson - $1,000,000
Silfverberg - $990,000
Latendresse - $2,000,000
Lundin - $1,150,000

Total = $11,840,000

Money in:

MacArthur = $3,250,000
Ryan = $5,562,500

Total = $8,812,500

Savings = $3,027,500

That savings (and more) can now be used on a veteran RHD

Sens have too many forward rights now so I don't expect Condra to be resigned at this point. Really solid NHL 4th liner but the Sens are stacked with those. Money will be better spent somewhere else and let a guy like Hoffman or Robinson earn that spot in camp.

He's been qualified so I don't see how he won't be re-signed.

He'll sign, if this year proved anything its you can never have enough players. Also they lose all of their pkers from last year.

Robinson? Whoa! No-one even ever heard of this guy until I posted his signing. And even then, I was only interested because his real name is Buddy and his dad's name is Bud. That and the fact that he's monster-sized.

Do you really think there is any chance he makes it?

Just means he won't get a offer-sheeted (offer-shot?) -- do we know if he signed the QO? If he didn't, can he still get an offer sheet?

FtA, how long have you been around here? Surely you've seen NEELY do a 180 before, right?

I don't think the process forbids other teams from offer-sheeting.
But my point was that we obviously want him back, and I don't see why not. Young players are exciting and everything but until they prove themselves we won't just trade roster players like that.

I like condra but it wouldn't pain me to see him walk so I don't have to hear that toolbag Travis Yost go on about him every Cussing day.

Seriously because at some point the money spent on him isn't worth what he bring when someone with a similar skill set is in the organization. Condra is probably looking at the exact same contract as Smith and IMO that's too much money and too many years for what he brings. Condra is great at what he does but he's replaceable, he's a 4th liner that deserves to get paid.

As for Robinson, yah, that's my dark horse. I don't think he would make it out of camp but I think there's a chance he is in the lineup mid season if there is a hit to the 4th line. Hoffman is the guy that takes Condra's spot IMO.

Pretty sure one of the reasons for QOs is to prevent offer sheets, but it's very possible that the player has to sign it for that restriction to kick in.

http://proicehockey.about.com/od/nhlfreeagents/a/nhl_free_agents_2.htm

A player who has signed a qualifying offer or is going to salary arbitration with his original team cannot sign an offer sheet.

So, technically, a team can still put in an offer sheet but the player cannot sign it, rendering it meaningless.

QOs don't prevent offer sheets; they ensure that the team making the offer sheet has to pay the stipulated recompense if they do get the player -- i.e., a 2nd if you sign the guy to this much money, a first if you sign him to that much money, and so on. If a player signs a QO, that's it -- that's his deal / new contract.

At least that's how it worked under the old CBA.

If you don't qualify the player they become a UFA.

I think arbitration prevents offer sheets.

^ That's right. But not all RFAs have arbitration rights -- only RFAs who have played more than 4 years in the NHL. Condra is a year short.
