QOs don't prevent offer sheets; they ensure that the team making the offer sheet has to pay the stipulated recompense if they do get the player -- i.e., a 2nd if you sign the guy to this much money, a first if you sign him to that much money, and so on. If a player signs a QO, that's it -- that's his deal / new contract.

At least that's how it worked under the old CBA.

If you don't qualify the player they become a UFA.

I think arbitration prevents offer sheets.

^ That's right. But not all RFAs have arbitration rights -- only RFAs who have played more than 4 years in the NHL. Condra is a year short.

Maybe this will make it easier to read and not skip the important stuff.

wprager wrote:http://proicehockey.about.com/od/nhlfreeagents/a/nhl_free_agents_2.htm

A player who has signed a qualifying offer or is going to salary arbitration with his original team cannot sign an offer sheet.

So, technically, a team can still put in an offer sheet but the player cannot sign it, rendering it meaningless.

Of course he can't. A QO is still an offer, and if you sign it, it's your new contract. What's the debate here?

Pat Cannone to the Blues for future considerations. There goes another contract.

Hmm, why are the Sens prospects all decked out in Team Sweden colors?

Interesting... might be a 7th rounder some day but fact is they needed to open up a spot in Bingo and needed to free up a contract. Bah well.

Cannone is a center.  So is DaCosta -- if he bolts for the YHL (Yodeling Hockey LeagueTM) then that doesn't leave much in Bingo.

Hoffman
Dzingel
Maidens
Baillargeon
Grant
Kramer

Hoffman is a center? Not much there to get excited about. Lazar has played center, and two other picks (Dunn and Shore) are also listed as centers.

#melnyk: says they've been working on this proposal since he bought the @NHL_Sens saying they need 3rd revenue stream to support team.

Melnyk meeting with city council today.

As Neely said, he is using the Sens as leverage to get a casino on his land, although I imagine they do need the money.

Not sure I buy that but he had to say something. I believe in 2nd starts for sure and I think Corvo knows what the deal is as well, don't think people should be holding this against him at this point. For a minor signing and a #6, 7 D man no point in making a mountain out of a mole hill.
