I never thought he'd gave the guts to do a ballsy risky move.

Cussing fun stuff, wasn't it? Months of us talking about a move like this and he does it. This is what happens when you can draft well.

Yeah, actually not even a top 2, a 2nd pairing, right hander with a great PP resume.  Boyle, Bogosian, someone like that (ha ha) would put the Sens up to 'near' contender status - if not contender.

I think with Ryan and Anderson (if he plays like he did in the regular season) we are a contender already.

I don't really know about that to be honest.  Boston is a contender, Chicago, LA - the usual suspects.  We're in the stratosphere, but I'm not sure Bobby Ryan put us into that realm yet.  Boyle might, but we're another year away from being the 'real' contender IMO.  The kids have to mature a little more etc.

Adding Ryan and MacArthur gets us a lot closer. Throw in a top 4 D and we're right in the mix IMO

Close. I maintain another year + away from all the young players to be where they need to be, but close. Doubt we get a Boyle, but I think we get a top 4 D-man, or I hope we can.

Ottawa adds the right D man and they are contenders. Goaltending is awesome, defense is about as solid as you can ask, up front they have a ton of depth, goal scoring, play making, and grit. Ottawa is going to be tough to beat and last season only helped guys like Zibanejad, Pageau, Karlsson, and Cowen.

Next year is going to be a great year in Ottawa and it will start with them winning the division... calling it now if they add the right D man.

That's a major 'if' though. Need a rightie who's really good.

They have Karlsson and Gryba and one more righty would be ideal but it's not like they REALLY need one. If they can add a guy like Hainsey, Gilbert, or Franson the Sens would be laughing. They do need one more guy just for depth though no matter what because right now that's what they are missing. You have 2 or 3 guys in the AHL that will be ready when the injuries come in Boroweicki, Ceci, and maybe Claeson and Wideman. Those are the guys that are up next.

Murray will make another move though as he has already stated.

on a lighter note i think we should do something special for when Alfie comes to town next year, like do the 11 seconds countdown and then shout "bobby, bobby, bobby!"
could be fun taunting.

Who is better than the Sens (if healthy) in the East?  Boston lost 6 players from their Cup Final team and will definitely have a hangover, at least at the start.  Bergeron was under observation in hospital and will have more than some bumps and bruises to recover from; he's also getting married -- don't expect him to be 100% to start the season.  Ericksson will make up for that, but what about the 6 players they lost?  Are they deep enough to have 6 prospects step up?

Pittsburgh lost their best player from the 3rd round.  They got Scuderi back and everyone is, like, "We should have never let him go" but in reality, he is a good defenseman who will help, but he is not going to make Fleury a better goaltender.    They still have Sid and Geno but they are not as good as they were last year; and last year if we had a healthy team and Anderson plays like he did earlier, that series goes longer.  Add Ryan (an upgrade on Alfie) and McArthur (an upgrade on Silfverberg at this point in his career) and the outcome could be very different.

Time will tell, of course, and there's no telling what will happen at the deadline, also, but I think the Sens have as good a chance of coming out of the East as anyone.

i'm not sure mcarthur is an upgrade on silf, in the coming year silf might really breakout.

He isn't a downgrade either and he's a LH shot. Call all things equal with the players except the side they shot... way more important to a team like Ottawa with all RH shots up front. It's a great fit and he has the ability to move up and down the lineup from the 1st to the 3rd. Just a really solid signing

So the Sens have a thank you Alfie page on their site, and the background is him saluting the fans. I think they need to go into next year capitalizing on this decision by Alfie by making their marketing campaign a "revenge" theme so to speak. Infer that we want to make Alfie regret his choice big time. Diddle the Pesky Sens, Diddle the us against the world, it's time to get down to business.

There will be no public "revenge" theme...although I imagine a lot of players in the dressing room will talk about that and make it an internal theme.

I think Melnyk wears this more than Alfie. He owed us nothing. You can't overlook the last 17 years he's dedicated to this team and city. I'll be chanting his name when he's back in town.

Sorry but I just can't blame Melnyk for Alfredsson bailing on his team. He wanted "a chance at the Cup".

I'm not overlooking his past. But that's in the past. The present is one in which Alfie is on a division rival, and we need to make his life a living hell when he plays us.

Right. We'll play hard against him. But there's no way he should be booed in our building or anything else like that.

I won't boo but fans absolutely have that right if they want to.
