Probably feels as betrayed as we do.

its not like the ray bourque situation but you can't help but feel he wants the cup. I don't agree with him that the wings have a better chance but it's his choice.wprager wrote:tim1_2 wrote:Gotta admire The Alfie for putting it all on himself and not placing any blame on the Sens org.
Yep. But how could he have blamed the Sens? They were in on the Clarkson sweepstakes, they got McArthur (2 x 20 goal scorer) and they landed Ryan ( 4 x 30 goal scorer). He has no leg to stand on to try and say the Sens were not going for it. Of course his decision was taken before Ryan, but his phone call was after, so there is nothing he could have said that didn't sound like back-pedaling.
And it's very possible that if Alfie came back then the Ryan deal would not have been made (unless the Duck caved and took the 2nd instead of the first that was in Murray's offer). But it is what it is. Alfie's golden statue just got tarnished. Maybe it'll get polished up again, but I doubt he settles in Ottawa in his retirement like he was saying before. Nowhere near as bad as Heatley or even Yashin, but there is no way I can see the majority of the fans saying "We still love you no matter what."

Yeah, actually not even a top 2, a 2nd pairing, right hander with a great PP resume. Boyle, Bogosian, someone like that (ha ha) would put the Sens up to 'near' contender status - if not contender.

I think with Ryan and Anderson (if he plays like he did in the regular season) we are a contender already.

I never thought he'd gave the guts to do a ballsy risky move.

I don't really know about that to be honest. Boston is a contender, Chicago, LA - the usual suspects. We're in the stratosphere, but I'm not sure Bobby Ryan put us into that realm yet. Boyle might, but we're another year away from being the 'real' contender IMO. The kids have to mature a little more etc.

Adding Ryan and MacArthur gets us a lot closer. Throw in a top 4 D and we're right in the mix IMO
