Doesn't sound like he is giving us much.

Daniel Alfredsson will give the Senators the first shot at signing him but he's certainly thrown a loop into negotiations.

The Senators captain told the Gothenburg Times _ a newspaper in his hometown _ Thursday that his No. 1 priority is negotiate a new contract with Ottawa.

Asked where he wished to play, Alfredsson gave an answer that will send shivers down the spines of Ottawa fans:

"I don’t wish anything. The only thing I’ve decided is that I want to play for another year. At least.”
To call Alfredsson tight-lipped would be an understatement.

“First, we will negotiate with Ottawa and then we will see what happens,” said Alfredsson.
While the Boston Bruins have confirmed they’ve spoken with Alfredsson’s agent J.P. Barry, it’s believed the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings might be among a group of “multiple” teams that have called his camp.

If Alfredsson does test the market Friday when free agency opens at noon it will be the first time in his career with the Senators he’s done that. Teams have a two-day window to speak to free agents.

Alfredsson, who is expected to make a decision, said he isn’t sure if he will test the free agent market.

“I don’t know, nothing’s decided yet,” said Alfredsson.
Alfredsson certainly didn’t sound like somebody who has ruled out moving on if the opportunity presents itself.

“I haven’t spoken to my agent (Thursday), but we assume that several clubs will call and show interest,” said Alfredsson.

well you know i'm in the camp that says this team needs to build its own leadership group and move on from Alfie...we need to create a new identity, one that creates multiple cup runs

Just stop posting links to stuff about The Alfie. It's all negotiating tactics at this point. He'll resign.

I doubt Murray wants to be the Gm that lets the most popular Senator player in history walk.

If they let Alfie walk I doubt it will be Murray's fault if he can't match what other teams offer.

It'll either be because of money (unlikely) or he wants his best shot to win the Cup and he feels Ottawa is not the place for it.

If I'm Alfredsson then I'm testing the market and most likely signing with a contender. Stalwart Murray and frugal Melnyk are sure not giving him any indications that this team is willing to do what it needs to do to at least give the appearance that this team will go further next season.

He deserves a chance at a cup and he's not getting that with Ottawa ever.

That's crap though in my eyes (if alfie thought that way). This isn't a bottom feeder team where he has NO chance at all to win the Cup. The grass isn't always greener.

Diddle that. Come on man, what's your problem? You don't see this team as having massive potential, guided by a Jack Adams winning coach? Get real, everyone else does.

Yeah, this is basically crap. He certainly has indications that this team is on the right path, especially given our appearance in the 2nd round last year. Keep in mind, free agency hasn't even opened yet, so at least wait a few days before you go spouting on about Murray not doing anything at all.

That's harsh, he's not saying anything ludicrous. Ottawa won't beat out Boston or whoever for a Cup NEXT year, but they are playoff mainstays. Like I said though grass isn't always greener.

if anyone thinks this team wins a Cup next year then I don't know what they're smoking, but IMO guys only leave seriously Dung teams for a chance at a cup

I think they are roughly 2 players away from once-you're-in-the-playoffs-anything-can-happen status.

I think we are already at that stage, who thought we'd be in the 2nd round last year.

It depends on the health and progress of the young players, not to mention how the rest of our division improves in the offseason.
