He deserves a chance at a cup and he's not getting that with Ottawa ever.

Diddle that.  Come on man, what's your problem?  You don't see this team as having massive potential, guided by a Jack Adams winning coach?  Get real, everyone else does.

That's harsh, he's not saying anything ludicrous. Ottawa won't beat out Boston or whoever for a Cup NEXT year, but they are playoff mainstays. Like I said though grass isn't always greener.

if anyone thinks this team wins a Cup next year then I don't know what they're smoking, but IMO guys only leave seriously Dung teams for a chance at a cup

I think they are roughly 2 players away from once-you're-in-the-playoffs-anything-can-happen status.

I think we are already at that stage, who thought we'd be in the 2nd round last year.

It depends on the health and progress of the young players, not to mention how the rest of our division improves in the offseason.

saying we can't beat a team like boston is a bit of a crap statement. you never know, Boston might be 2-3 injuries away from not making it past the first round.

Boston is beat to crap, Chara is border line in terms of staying on top of his game and declining fast. His hips are almost shot completely because of the pounding he takes year in and year out. Bergeron won't be 100% when Sept rolls around and lets not forget this is the shortest summer in NHL history with the extended reg season and early camp because of the Olympics.

Next year Boston could very well be on fumes come playoff time with a lot of their guys headed to the Olympics (top guys). Ottawa has every chance in the world at beating the Bruins next year with the team they had at the end of last year (healthy).

That's what I mean though. People saying Alfie should go somewhere else to have a chance at the Cup are challenged. If Alfie did that I would lose respect for him since this team is close to being true contenders. This isn't Ray Bourque leaving Boston.

You do a lot to mitigate that by adding some pieces.

I'm happy with what we did in the playoffs but round 2 was a rude awakening for me. This is why I think we need to add a couple of players.

Not gonna say anything negative towards Alfie because he isn't going anywhere. I thought it was just my g/f that loved drama... apparently not. Boston won't win the cup next year, that's for sure because they are being held together by duct tape at this point.

Lucky Boston. Ottawa can't afford duct tape.

I would love it if Ottawa goes out and resigns Alfie tomorrow and somehow finds a way to bring in Clarkson. That way all these budget jokes can just go away. There's no reason to think the money isn't there for both guys if they actually had Clarkson in Ottawa yesterday.

Listening to the live press conference for MacLean's signing now. This will turn in to Alfiegate really fast.

Why do we want Clarkson? He's going to get $5M and has 14 points in 45 playoff games. How much better will he have to be in Ottawa than in New Jersey to justify this kind of cash? Way more than a "change of scenery" will give him.

Because Clarkson is a very good hockey player. Yah, he is going to be over paid but Ottawa at this point can afford to do that. Might also help Spezza take a lower salary along with the captaincy when his contract is up as well. Clarkson you have to look beyond the stats for sure and look at the fact that Toronto wants him as well and playing against that Toronto lineup plus Clarkson, Ottawa would be lacking some muscle for sure.

Clarkson is capable of putting up 20 and 20 while making life hell for the other teams. Might be the perfect player to put on a line with Michalek and Spezza as well if you want any kind of production above 20 goals.

Put Clarkson next to Turris and you don't have to worry about him not being strong enough

Clarkson makes everybody on that team about a foot taller.
