Bridge contract fur Cowen. 2 years, 2.2 per year
Same for Wiercioch 2 years, 1.9 per year.

He was our best faceoff guy with Spezza out and MacLean praised his game at the end of the season.

Sure he didn't put up numbers but that's not what they pay him for. He had a hotstreak in the previous season and disappeared at the end, probably due to the hit he took from Winchester.

Until they have someone who replaces what he brings for the same money or less I doubt he goes anywhere.

Meh, he's pretty easily replaceable from within IMO, but I doubt we move him at this point. That could have been a form of the sophomore slump last season.

Replaced by whom? Maybe down the road but I don't see anyone who could right now, not without taking some risks anyway.

Murray's not trading him for a RHD unless Ceci is a bust, even then that's assuming you can find a n RHD on the market.

Him and Turris did a great job of filling in for Spezza. Remember what happened when we lost Spezza for a while under Clouston? We pretty much lost every game.

Not sure. We have so much depth at C right now that we're trying to put guys like Zibanejad and Pageau on wing. I don't mind Spezza, Turris, Pageau, Zibanejad down the middle personally. But then...MacLean called Smith one of the most improved players, so I'll trust him opinion for sure.

I can see Ceci make the NHL next season for sure, but we could still use a big time 2nd pairing D-man. No problem having some depth and creating competition. I've always wanted a certain guy playing next to Cowen, but I doubt that happens anytime soon. That said, when the Jets get done with him in arbitration, hopefully there's some bad blood and he wants to leave next summer.

I think we'll find he's good value for money.

So will Cowen sign a short term deal or will they gamble on a long term 3.5Mish deal like Roman Josi?
