Nice add for Ottawa.

I think we'll find he's good value for money.

So will Cowen sign a short term deal or will they gamble on a long term 3.5Mish deal like Roman Josi?

They should go the way of Josi/Harmonic. Just lock him up and don't look back.

Where does JOB land? I say Florida.

Seems risky for a guy who has played less than 100 NHL games and there's some concerns with his injury history.

Might be riskier for him to have a great year or two and then they can't afford to re-sign him.

But they did this with Turris so I think they might go the same route, assuming Cowen and his agent go for it.

Try to get Cowen done for more than 2 yrs.

Spezza & Ryan's contracts both are over in 2 yrs and hopefully Melnyk has the $$ to re-sign them both.

Don't want to have too many expiring contracts in that year..

4 year x 10 Mil for Cowen. I think that's fair value for everyone.

I assume you meant 4 x $2.5M, totaling $10M.

Except that leaves him a Ufa

Of course.

As per him being a UFA, that will be his bargaining chip and the advantage Murray will give him for taking a mid-term contract at a lower dollar value. In two years we'll be praising the fact that Cowen is only a $2.5M cap-hit per year, and if we're not, it's a very tradeable contract.

I'd do a 2 year contract, then re-assess. 2 years, 4 million total - or long term @ 3.5-4 million per year, but I think I'd do the 2 year bridge first. Same with Wiercioch.

I don't think either one is eligible for arbitration (filing deadline already passed, right?) so they will not get the comparables that had been discussed earlier. But if the Sens don't want the player pissed off, the numbers suggested so far are not fair given those comparables. More so for Wiercioch than Cowen. Wiercioch came in as a rookie and scored at a nearly .5 PPG pace on a team that could not score. And people are suggesting $1.5M? You could well argue that Cowen, who's had two major surgeries already, struggled when he came back from the latest one, has more to prove before being given a long-term deal.

Anyway, my concern is they don't want to piss off a prospect.

Screw pissing them off. 2 x 900k for Weircioch. How many games has he played?

2 x 1.25 for Cowen.

Are you serious? Wiercioch's QO is $827K; Cowen made more than your "offer" on his ELC.

I'm sure he isn't serious. Cowen will get $2M+ without question.
