Ummm, won't rip you because I think he would be a player the Sens needed IF they didn't have Gryba. They need more of an all around game in that #4 spot.

A tidbit from a Yost article on the Sens finances:

Now, there's sort of a negative buzz in Ottawa about potential financial issues with owner Eugene Melnyk. He's wildly changed his tune in the past couple of years, morphing from "it's imperative to spend if your goal is to win" to "players need to take pay cuts to play here, they have to want to play here, we're a small market team that won't spend with the big boys," and so on.

We will know a lot if he's willing to give a player about 5M... if Alfie is signed to a new contract shortly...

Apparently Murray said the budget is 50M.. Capgeek shows salary payroll about 40.5M... so about 9.5M for Alfie, Condra & Wiercioch..

Other teams can contact Alfie and his agent at 12:01 am tomorrow... a little over 2 hours away.. if he is not signed.

Well it's kinda important.. and since free agency is coming up... and the Sens don't think they are doing anything... it's probably because of Melnyk who won't or can't spend.

But I am looking forward to the development camp. Season ticket holder event on Sat.. at the scrimmage..

One player I'm interested in seeing how he is doing is Maidens.. and of course Lazar.

There is a season ticket holder event the night of the scrimmage on July 6th.. Scrimmage is open to the public.. just like all of the other on-ice events..

First on-ice session is 1:30 at the Bell SensPlex.

Wow! Things are even worse than I initially thought.

I think the point of Melnyk right now is that overpaying for guys isn't necessarily the correct way of doing things. I have a feeling Murray's sat down with him and explained it, but he knew it already going into this season. You can make a team with little money, but eventually these guys are gonna get paid. Does that mean he should green light spending money on any player that hits UFA? No,why would he. We went through the BS of having lazy players when we spent to the cap and now there's none of that Dung.

The Jets have an internal budget so it's not unprecedented for a Canadian team to do so.

I doubt the Sens can spend as much as the other Canadian teams if their ticket prices are so much cheaper as well.

From what we went through with the lazy factor a few years ago, I think it's smart to have an internal cap. Why not? Clearly Murray can handle it and if someone is dropped in our lap - ie.Boyle or Briere, Melnyk will ante up, I'm 100% positive.

The one thing I don't want the Sens to do is spend stupid like they did with Kovalev and like the Flyers are doing.

But to get a top 6 forward and a top 4 D is something that helps this team during the regular season to make the playoffs and hopefully going further into the playoffs making Melnyk more $$$.

So it makes sense to spend money to make money... but smart money..
