Don't see Da Costa there, I guess he is done with the organization. He skipped out last year as well.

He was still under contract last year, he is an RFA this year. There was some talk he will sign in Europe.

The guy is a cut throat business man at the core and people should realize that. He's fine, he's playing games, simple as that.
You really think Watson and the city would change their tune because Eugene might desperately need the money ?
The city has always given the finger to the team, starting with where they had them place the arena and then paying for highway off-ramp.
I doubt Eugene is broke but he takes a loss if he spends to the cap, he may not be able to do that anymore.
Say what? That had nothing to do with the city and everything to do with previous owners and the city of Kanata when it was actually it's own municipality. The city should tell Melnyk to screw off because the casino shouldn't be built there and if he wants to use the Sens as leverage go ahead because people will riot if that actually happens or comes out that it has.
NEELY, you should go and read up on some history. Their first choice was Lebreton but the NCC would not give them an answer one way or another (answer would have been no, but they didn't want to appear to be the bad guys so they delayed on giving an answer); the deadline for the application to the NHL was coming up so they went for Kanata.
They went for Kanata because that's where everyone thought Canada's high tech industry would be booming for years... figure property value would go up as such and things never really materialized there in that respect. It wasn't just because the NCC didn't give them the land.
Let’s first look at some of the alternative sites. Lebreton Flats is owned by the NCC and the NCC informed us that they had a (very) long term plan for the site that did not include an arena, even if was going to be a ‘very nice arena’, it was still just a rink to them. The NCC felt that national priorities such as a new museum (which turned out to be the War Museum) or a new SCC (Supreme Court of Canada) building would take precedence. They gave us two opinions—a private view which just said “No.” And a public version: “We’ll study it.” In bureaucrat’ese, that is the same as a “No.”
