When Melnyk said he will have to reconsider his investment in the city this is what he was talking about IMO. He's using the Sens as leverage to develop his land, simple as that man. People need to get a grip, he's making money with the whole lot there including the arena, parking lot, and the business' within that arena. Straight hockey opp? Might be losing some cash but he's making money off the Sens.

Say what? That had nothing to do with the city and everything to do with previous owners and the city of Kanata when it was actually it's own municipality. The city should tell Melnyk to screw off because the casino shouldn't be built there and if he wants to use the Sens as leverage go ahead because people will riot if that actually happens or comes out that it has.

Yes I read that comment and I know full well he is using the Sens as leverage to develop his land, I just don't think the city gives a Dung.  I am sure he is making money on the whole operation, I just wonder if it's enough to spend to the cap if needed.

As for the hockey op itself yes I imagine he is losing money.  Most if not all teams do.  I am no tax expert but I believe they can write off the losses so it's intentional that they set up the business that way.

As for the operation of the team, it is what it is. People don't buy a sports team to make money but they most certainly don't buy one to lose it either. Anyways, as I see it I believe Melnyk is fine but people shouldn't forget that behind everything that is Melnyk and the Sens there is a very experienced and ruthless business man that has no problems flexing his muscle despite everyone else.

I want a muscle flexed for Boyle and Briere.

Melnyk has had a change of heart since Heatley.  Seeing how successful the team is on a low budget I doubt he will ever spend that high again since he probably thinks it is unnecessary and we'll probably nickel and dime our players for hometown discounts as well.

We were willing to trade for Nash's insane contract, so I wonder what the philosophy is. My take is we are willing to spend on a marquee player who could bring money in.

And don't forget that they also raised their taxes because the off-ramp upped the value of the land.

NEELY, you should go and read up on some history. Their first choice was Lebreton but the NCC would not give them an answer one way or another (answer would have been no, but they didn't want to appear to be the bad guys so they delayed on giving an answer); the deadline for the application to the NHL was coming up so they went for Kanata.

They went for Kanata because that's where everyone thought Canada's high tech industry would be booming for years... figure property value would go up as such and things never really materialized there in that respect. It wasn't just because the NCC didn't give them the land.

Don't see Da Costa there, I guess he is done with the organization. He skipped out last year as well.

He was still under contract last year, he is an RFA this year. There was some talk he will sign in Europe.
