Ready HF boards obviously and nothing they say should be taken seriously but may as well talk about it... Hemsky to Ottawa?  I actually heard from someone this could happen a while back and posted so interesting they are saying it happening in Edmonton too.

Wouldn't take a 5 mil cap hit, 5.5 meal real dollar contract for that guy straight up for anyone other than Kassian in Ottawa.  Smith or Greening sounds like the pieces they want back but they must be throwing in a pick/prospect/or a bigger deal than just that.  This could be a way Ottawa could land a 2nd rounder in this years draft, add a top 6 forward, and move some center depth.

Smith didn't have the best year last year and fact is his ever since he took that big shot in San Jose he hasn't done much of what made him successful.  In the playoffs he was almost invisible as well and what he should be bringing, well he isn't bringing.  Not to mention the fact Pageau did a better job up the middle than Smith did and could have very well replace his mins and spot in the lineup if he is the guy to move.

I for one think Smith's time is definitely up. I mean, we need size and toughness but he has provided little of that in the last 90 games or so.

Exactly.  Smith was being groomed as a Bergeron type player with a mean streak... he isn't good enough to shut other teams top players down like they wanted him too.  He isn't fast enough to be a regular on the PK.  He makes awful decisions each night. He's turned into a 4th line pest with problems showing up every night.  Did he lose his edge when when he got his deal?  Maybe.

4th line centers can be found anywhere at this point and Pageau may have that job already.  He doesn't have to be the most physical guy but he always wins the puck battles, has an offensive touch, and does have the ability to shut down other teams top players.  For a rookie he did a fantastic job against Crosby on a lot of shifts, Bylsma tried to get Crosby away from that matchup which says something.

Smith fights once in a while and scores even less... extremely expendable even if it does take away from team toughness and size for a bit.  It can be found elsewhere.

MacLean singled out Smith (and Turris) as the most improved players.  Doesn't sound like he will be going anywhere.  He was our best faceoff guy as well.

Depends on the deal I suppose.

I believe I said before that Wiercioch would be an Oiler next year, so I could see him being dealt for Hemsky as well.

He also singled out Pageau... doesn't mean anything and there is no way Smith was the most improved.

If you're trading Weircioch it has to be for a long term solution for a position that needs help.  Edmonton needs some foot soldiers, Greening or Smith for sure if it happens.

i'd be pissed if we traded weir for hemsky. pissed. I don't even want hemsky, he doesn't always show up, he's injury prone, best he should get is ya maybe a guy like smith and even then, i'm not sure. they don't want him in Edm anymore then give up something with him. we're not out there to do favors.

just remember that guys from Dung teams usually turn it around once traded to a contender. Remember Marc methot was just a bottom pairing, injury prone d-man in Columbus.

Good players on crap teams usually turn out pretty well on a good team with good coaching.

Max domi sounds great and we might not have to move up too much for him, reminds me of some of the stuff i read about skinner years ago appart that this kid doesn't have a knock on his skating

. but i trust murray and co to do the right thing obviously.

We have that guy in Puempel. As much as we all put him in trade proposals, he could end up killing it in the A this year.

Size and toughness does not come with Hemsky. He will spend most of his time on injured reserve. He has the skill... but is there something else coming? Is he really a Murray or McLean type player? Setup an infirmary in Ottawa for Hemsky, Michalek and maybe Spezza. He won't last very long in the games against Toronto or Boston...

I don't like the potential trade unless there is a swap of the 17th pick for the 7th.. with something else included.

Has anyone really "bought" a pick this way yet? I guess so, but a Top 10 pick? Pretty sure not. EDM would be getting some youth back in this sort of deal for sure.

Interesting stuff I saw on TSN Quiz when they interviewed the 2013 draftees. Who would you draft if you were a GM?

Seth Jones: Ryan Hartman
McKinnon: Josh Morrissey
Drouin: Frederik Gauthier
Darnel Nurse: Sean Monahan

Despite what Mac said, I think Smith is moved this off season for a young D-man - a la Hjarlmasson. If not, then I'm wrong, but I've thought since basically halfway through this season that he was easily replaceable, but still quite valuable to other teams.

I would prefer the Sens get a top 4 D rather than a forward right now.

A healthy Spezza, Michalek & Karlsson were good enough last season to help the team to 4th overall in league scoring.  Scoring sucked this year because these 3 missed most of the season.

Let guys like Hoffman Stone or Prince come into the lineup...
