Interesting stuff I saw on TSN Quiz when they interviewed the 2013 draftees. Who would you draft if you were a GM?

Seth Jones: Ryan Hartman
McKinnon: Josh Morrissey
Drouin: Frederik Gauthier
Darnel Nurse: Sean Monahan

Depends on the deal I suppose.

Despite what Mac said, I think Smith is moved this off season for a young D-man - a la Hjarlmasson. If not, then I'm wrong, but I've thought since basically halfway through this season that he was easily replaceable, but still quite valuable to other teams.

I would prefer the Sens get a top 4 D rather than a forward right now.

A healthy Spezza, Michalek & Karlsson were good enough last season to help the team to 4th overall in league scoring.  Scoring sucked this year because these 3 missed most of the season.

Let guys like Hoffman Stone or Prince come into the lineup...

Odds are fairly good Spezza and/or Michalek will get hurt again next year and Karlsson may not be 100% to start.

If you can get a legit top-6 without giving up anything big you do it.

Hemsky's not that guy. The odds are even more certain he will get hurt. Hasn't played close to a full season since 2005/06.

He may very well get hurt but good luck trying to find a guy that can score around 60 points without giving up a huge piece on your team or draft pick/prospect or giving out a stupid deal that you probably can't recover from in the short term.  Hemsky is the perfect kind of player to take a shot on to increase your scoring depth up front and not worry about what will happen to him in the future.  If he does land in Ottawa he either works out or he doesn't... and what was the cost?  Zack Smith?  Greening?  Greening is a guy that's going to price himself out of Ottawa if he has a 1/2 decent year anyways so perhaps giving a guy like that away in a deal is the way to go as well.

Either way, Hemsky is a top line player and giving the circumstances in Edmonton he may very well be able to turn it on in a big way in Ottawa if things workout somewhat.  It's a good risk to take and one that could pay off long term as well.

Even if they do land Hemsky somehow I would still be in the market for a guy like Cammalleri simply because they need that LH shot.  If you could but a pure sniper on the wing (Cammalerri) with Spezza and Hemsky and then have a 2nd line of Alfi/Turris/Michalek and a 3rd line of Zibanejad/Siflverberg with perhaps anyone of Conacher/Hoffman/Noesen/Stone or some dark horse like Prince or Peumpel then you have a ton of scoring depth up and down that lineup.  4th line of Neil/Pageau/Condra... maybe Greening depending on how things shape out.  Even DD can't be over looked for that 4th line and could be a better fit than Greening.

Either way, the Sens need at the very least 1 top 6 winger and probably 2.  Cammalleri and Hemsky would add a ton of depth in terms of scoring, the PP would be instantly better, and they wouldn't be holding the bag for a ton of cash outside of this year and if things work out then they can resign them.  If they need to give up some draft picks next year or the year after in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, then so be it.  Time to take a swing because there will be prospects ready to step up for years to come now.

Would you rather Cammi or Briere?

Cammalleri for sure, better player who scores more goals at this point and the Sens NEED A LH SHOT.

Yep, Cammalleri too for me. Younger, more of a goal scorer, and a LHS

While that's not debatable in the least they need a LH shot more than anything at this point.

Briere over Hemsky is a different story and the answer to that one is an absolute yet.

Cammalleri is too much $$.

Hemsky is only 29, Briere's best days are behind him.
