Oh spezz... The Boyle dream is deader then dead. Havlat could be ok but stewart makes a whole lot more sense with what the sens are trying to do. Build for the future with young guys. That guy could be a 30 goal guy playing with spezza

I tell ya...it's not dead. They have cap issues and want to get younger and integrate some youth into the lineup.

It IS dead for one year. Next off-season, if he's unsigned, then fuel the rumour mill. Right now, you're trying to make something out of less than nothing.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.

Some dude on HB who claims he has contacts within the Sens organization commented the following:

Here's some tidbits from the inside:

2 of the teams the Sens have spoken to about moving up are the Oilers and Devils. I cant name players right now so I cant get into the specifics of the Oilers deal but I can in regards to the Devils.

If 1 of 2 players are available at the 9th spot that the Sens covet they may offer up the 17th in this years draft along with a midlevel prospect plus.... a first in next year's draft. This may be appealing to the Devils due to the fact that they will have to forfeit next year's pick(Kovalchuk signing).

Murray has had talks with his west coast twin in Anaheim since last summer about Ryan. Last year the Sens along with the Flyers and Sabres went deep into talks about Ryan until Bob pulled the chute. With Perry/Getzlaf signed long term Bob Murray is now ready to move out some salary. I think the Sens have cooled on Ryan for what the asking price was last year and the fact that Zibanejad has improved his status within the club. In Bryan's eyes his stock has risen. Last summer Zbad was one of three pieces being discussed in a deal for Ryan. I most certainly think that package is off the table.

Vanek is not a target.

Carolina is however.... stay tuned.

My guess is either Monahan or Domi. If it's true.

Thanks for sharing Sandy.  That is intriguing if true.  Not sure how I'd feel about trading two first rounders for a 9th overall pick.  Me thinks they want Sean Monahan or Nurse if those are the range of picks they're targeting.

The only justification for that is the sens believe next season's draft won't be as deep or they believe their own team will be good enough for a longer run.

not sure who we target from Carolina. I highly doubt jeff skinner is available. Not sure what else we'd want from there.

This talk of Ottawa pursuing Ryan reminded me that I just heard that Howson confirmed to Edmonton media (terry jones i think?) that Ottawa had the best offer for The Nasher.

Interesting if true, fact is Ottawa doesn't need anymore "safe" picks.  They don't need to be picking in the middle of the pack year after year and if there is someone they really like in the top 10... you gotta trust the Sens at that point. They still have their 2nd next year so the difference between say the 22nd pick and the 52nd pick is basically a better chance at drafting a safe 3rd liner...

This year if they can draft Domi or Lindholm, something like that then go ahead and do it because they have enough prospect depth that they can take a swing like that.

Skinner? Pitkanen? Intriguing stuff though.

With the number of prospects in the system now.. and with (at this point in time) a 2nd round pick in the 2014 draft.. I would not be upset if the Sens moved the #1 next season.  It's a chance you take if the pick ends up being in the top 5... but at this point.. with what they have coming into the AHL this season, I think it's a gamble I want Murray to take...

But could they move to 9th, then try to deal with the Oilers to move to 7th? It's only 2 spots..

Murray is a crafty dude... I wouldn't put it passed him..

Apparently Nieneridder has asked for a trade again... there's a player Ottawa should be going balls to the walls for.  That is 100% the type of forward the Sens are lacking right now and 100% the type of move they need to make.  He may take a couple more years to turn into a dominate type player but when he's full grown and understands the NHL game he's going to be a legit power forward that will be very tough to stop.

If you can trade Mark Stone straight up for that guy you do it even if you have to add in a pick or two in the mid rounds.  Wouldn't be surprised to see the kid dealt to LA for Bernier though, NYI needs a goaltender going into next season unless TT comes back which I highly doubt.

Apparently, according to Dreger, as many as 15 teams are interested in Briere. Could make the bidding tough for us.

I wouldn't throw everything at Briere in terms of $ and term but it's possible at this stage in his career he is looking for stability and comfort over everything else.  He doesn't need the cash (I don't think) and will choose the best place to play for his own personal reasons.  If it's Ottawa great, if it isn't well tough break.  Nothing gained, nothing lost.

Good, extensive off-season plan written by Scott Cullen: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=425977

He has us adding Pascal Dupuis, and that' it.

That would be horrible. Guy is going to get paid. If we added him and Dupuis though our wings are upgraded

Ugh, Dupuis... adding a 35 year old coming off a career year is never a good idea.

Do you mean if we add Briere and Dupuis?

It wouldn't be a great add...his career high in goals is 25, and that was playing 82 games with Crosby. And yeah, he's going to get overpaid. It wouldn't be the worst move in the world, and adding him AND Briere gives us tons of flexibility...but yeah, it should be a Plan D or E.

May as well add Matt Cullen for 1/2 the price and the same production and role.
