If Calgary wants a guy that can play tomorrow a guy like Conacher might be going the other way if Ottawa for some reason makes that move.

Cammalleri's cap hit is $6M, but his actual salary for this coming year is $7M. Might be too rich for The Euge.

Meh, the cap payroll is lower than the cap going into the year and they need to add a forward... having a liability of 7 mil and seeing how it turns out is the worst thing.  Those long term contracts you can't get out of are the killer because of the long term liabilities attached to it.  That's what kills pocket books.

We'll see if Cammalleri is the guy the decide to grab, again his attitude and generally the way he carries himself rubs people the wrong way.  Maybe at 31 he has matured a bit but at this point every single city he has played in he has asked for a trade and willing left Calgary for more money the first time around.

If it's Da Costa, O'Brien, and a 3rd, something along those lines then yah, that's worth the risk from a pure asset for asset standpoint but anything more than that could be wasted if they really swing for the fences.  Cammalleri seems like a great fit on paper being a LH shot who can play every forward position and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they went out and obtained him but it wouldn't surprise me if they gave it the old pass either.

The thing with Calgary, too, is that Feaster has been told he needs to make the playoffs this coming season...so will he want to give up Cammalleri for fringe NHLers/picks? Probably not, but we'll see what happens. As you said, Neely, it might be something more along the lines of Conacher straight up for Cammalleri, which would be a gutsy call by the Murrays.

That would be a tough call if that was the asking price but there is no way Calgary believes they will be making the playoffs, I refuse to believe anyone in that city including the owner and GM believe they have a shot at making a push.  They have no captain, not on ton on D, a goalie who may or may not come back, and close to zero offense.

Fact is with Cammalleri's cap hit there is maybe a team or two willing to take it on with everyone scrambling to get under the cap as it is.  Cammalleri still has a limited NTC and can nix a few deals if he wants but a team has to be willing to trade for him.  The Devils make sense, the Leafs kind of do as well, maybe the Yotes, and the Sens.  Those 4 teams have a need and could make a trade for the guy so Calgary won't be getting a ton back for him.  No team will be willing to give up a 1st rounder or a prospect that they really like for him, maybe a roster player that can help right away and a pick/mid tier prospect.  Like I said, O'brien, Da Costa, and a 3rd is about all I could see the Sens giving up for a guy like that.

If you wanna talk about Chris Stewart, that's another convo because he's right in his prime and St.Louis actually might move him to make some cap room.  Thing is, they don't want picks and prospects back for him because they are going for it right now and it will take a roster player like Greening to land him.  Not sure if Ottawa is willing to do that because Greening has shown his worth but will command a big pay raise after this season.

Bobby Ryan is obviously the prize winger out there so that is something to keep an eye one as well... Not sure what Philly will do about the cap either.  Something unexpected always comes up as well around the league in terms of a guy getting traded.  The other player people keep forgetting about is Vanek, what happens with him?  There's a guy Ottawa could use ASAP but trading in division will be tougher than it was previously because of the new format.

Another guy that could be had for a song and dance is Havlat but is also a buyout candidate and doesn't look to have a lot left in the tank.  That would be the ultimate "we struck out so may as well give it a shot" move.

Setoguchi is available too, since Minny has cap issues. That's a guy we've long been rumoured to have interest in.

Again, another RH that's not all that great at anything.  Yah, it would add a bit of scoring depth but he doesn't bring much else to the game and if he isn't scoring (which he tends to go on long stretches of not doing that) he's pretty close to useless.  They need a LH shot in the worst way right now because they work the puck from the same side of the ice each and every single time.  It's easy to coach against.

I'm scared we'll overpay for Stewart.  Havlat would be great if he came with Boyle.

Oh spezz... The Boyle dream is deader then dead. Havlat could be ok but stewart makes a whole lot more sense with what the sens are trying to do. Build for the future with young guys. That guy could be a 30 goal guy playing with spezza

I tell ya...it's not dead. They have cap issues and want to get younger and integrate some youth into the lineup.

Yeah but there was talk of giving him an extension. They'll get rid of havlat for cap reasons.

It IS dead for one year. Next off-season, if he's unsigned, then fuel the rumour mill. Right now, you're trying to make something out of less than nothing.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.

Some dude on HB who claims he has contacts within the Sens organization commented the following:

Here's some tidbits from the inside:

2 of the teams the Sens have spoken to about moving up are the Oilers and Devils. I cant name players right now so I cant get into the specifics of the Oilers deal but I can in regards to the Devils.

If 1 of 2 players are available at the 9th spot that the Sens covet they may offer up the 17th in this years draft along with a midlevel prospect plus.... a first in next year's draft. This may be appealing to the Devils due to the fact that they will have to forfeit next year's pick(Kovalchuk signing).

Murray has had talks with his west coast twin in Anaheim since last summer about Ryan. Last year the Sens along with the Flyers and Sabres went deep into talks about Ryan until Bob pulled the chute. With Perry/Getzlaf signed long term Bob Murray is now ready to move out some salary. I think the Sens have cooled on Ryan for what the asking price was last year and the fact that Zibanejad has improved his status within the club. In Bryan's eyes his stock has risen. Last summer Zbad was one of three pieces being discussed in a deal for Ryan. I most certainly think that package is off the table.

Vanek is not a target.

Carolina is however.... stay tuned.
