Wow, Alfie doesn't believe in his team is basically what I took from that statement about the Stanley Cup. Hope the Sens make sure Detroit doesn't come close to making the playoffs. His legacy is Ottawa is now ruined, he's not a lifetime Sen and he is now just part of a long list of guys that left for greener pastures. I'll never boo the guy, never forget some of the memories but I'll be damned if I cheer for him in anything but a Sens uni.

LOL. His legacy is not ruined, not by a long shot. The team wasn't prepared to commit enough $$$ to salary to make a legit run for the Cup.

Think about everything The Alfie has done for this city and the hockey team. This doesn't ruin anything, it just sure hurts like hell right now.

Listen, it's not that Ottawa isn't a good team. It's just that we could be a ton better if we spent some dough. We're apparently not going to, so The Alfie moved on somewhere else where at least the payroll isn't an issue.

We're in the second year of a rebuild. We should really just stay the course and improve with the payers we have in the fold.

Makes no sense. Iginla left Calgary because they sucked. Bourque left Boston because they sucked. Sundin left Toronto because they sucked. Alfredsson leaves the team when they could potentially break out even more.

It's entirely possible to improve the rebuild, while spending some dough on a big name free agent or two. Alfie knew we wouldn't and he left.

We would be a legit Cup threat if we spent some dough, and I guess The Alfie thought we wouldn't be able to compete for big names if his salary was also on the books.

Two years of making the playoffs and going deeper in year 2 is not a "rebuild". Get real. It was time to add to this team now and for whatever reason we're subtracting more than anyone could have imagined.

This is exactly how I feel too. This is a team that is on the rise and actually IMO is probably better than Detroit.

Has Alfie looked? There are no "big names". People are going to give David Clarkson over $6M for 7 years.

There is no massive spending we could do that would make us a contender and not Diddle us over down the road.
