Otherwise, what are we doing here?  We have a trillion guys who play a good, solid 2-way game and have 'potential'.  I personally don't want potential any more, I want a goal scorer.  Cammalleri, Briere, Bobby Ryan (never happen), perhaps someone off the radar like Glencross.  Whatever, bring us in someone who can put the biscuit in the net.
Burm is a guy that can get in front of the net. I'm not sure we'll be able to find that elusive 40 goal scorer that we all dream of. but in that deal we could bring Bogo to play the right side behind Karlsson. Cammalleri can still come in anyways. he'll be cheap enough.

First, I don't think there's any chance in the world we get Bogosian - and if we did, you can expect Zibanejad or Silfverberg + to be going the Jets way.  You know how much I want Bogo here, it's not gonna be easy and I dare say it's nothing more than a dream.

I'd like Hemsky right now.  A guy who has done it before and can conceivably do it again playing with Spezza.  Or Cammalleri, but damned if I want to overpay for these guys.

My main point is: we need to get an experienced goal scorer from a team who's over the cap and needs to shed.  If we can't get one and we can't nab Briere etc., then we're better off to try to find the next Marc Methot, just don't go and get another young player with potential, we're up to our arses in that.  Need someone who's been around and done it, or don't do it IMO.

Depends on what the price is on Hemsky though.  Is MacTavish shooting for the stars here and asking for Smith?  Because if that's the case, no way.  If he's being realistic and asking the Sens to eat all of the 5.5 million, then a 3rd rounder + Da Costa/Grant should be fine - and if that's the price, Hemsky would be such a better fit here than MPS.  When healthy - which is basically never - he can produce.

I'd do Hemsky for Smith in a second. You wouldn't?scratch

EDIT: I'd still do Hemsky for Smith, but I just took a look at his injury history. HolyCow!

He's still an upgrade over Smith, but anyone is an upgrade over an injured player, so who's to say?

No way I wouldn't do Z.Smith for Hemsky. A young C with upside signed to a great deal for an injury riddled rental? I find that a poor use of assets personally. I'm all for trading Smith if the right deal comes along, but not for a rental.

you might be right about silf or zib going back. but maybe a couple of first round picks would do the trick with weir(not just that but i was alluding to a multi-player swap on both sides). I mean it depends on other offers they'd get if they shopped him. would also mean we'd get to keep Cowen. methot-karlsson
Cowen-bogo
phillips/boro-ceci
Drool
that reeks of championship defense.

I think that is a championship defence - depending on how Bogosian deals with the rigors of an extended playoff run - problem is that Winnipeg realizes that Bogosian is a nice piece to start putting together a...championship defence and he, along with Trouba and perhaps Fat Byfuglien and maybe Enstrom might be the foundations for  it.  If I were them, the only way I'd trade Bogosian is if he didn't sign a long term extension - at market value - with my team.  So, if that happens, all bets are off, otherwise...forget about it unfortunately.

EDIT: That should be Ottawa's target. Fat Byfuglien. Imagine him on PP2 and unit 2 of our defence pairings? Pretty damn impressive if he can keep himself under 300 pounds.

the way I see it hemsky has lowered his value over the past couple of seasons. right now, especially this year with so many teams needing to get bellow the cap there's a bunch of these overpaid, under-performing players out there that should cost a song and dance to unload of their team. honestly i'd give jimmy OB and a 4rth rounder and tell them to suck it.
Hemsky is just another Latendresse waiting to happen.

I'll even do O'Brien + 3rd + Da Costa - plus we eat his 5.5 million dollar contract. Done and done.

ya, obviously i'm speculating all this behind the fact that there's been rumblings that Bogo isn't happy in Winni. I think there's buyers beware with Byfuglien. mnot sure he'll be effective the way he has for that many more years. seems to have problems with conditioning and as the years advance that might catch up to him in a big way. might be wrong of course.

overpayment
besides, not sure edm has a need for Da costa. there's two sides right now, one that says gagner will be dealt(in that case they could possibly use Da costa but that might be a downgrade) and if they re-sign him to an extention they won't need him. i'd keep my 3rd personally. take a 4rth and be happy you're not stuck with his contract on your books. in my eyes Hemsky is (high probability failing) experiment for any team.

Oh boy, I hope Bogo's unhappy in Winnipeg. One step closer to him coming to play for his childhood favourite team.

I'm with you, I don't want to overpay, but if you're only willing to send O'Brien + a 4th, then you might as well not even bother IMO.

by taking Hemsky we're basically doing them a favor. there's no room for him left in EDM and he's way overpaid and injured all the time.

Okay, you tell me why I'm sending a young C with untapped upside, signed to a 1.8 million long term contract for an ultra fragile winger, in the final year of his contract making 5.5 million dollars.

I'm all ears.

Whaaaaaat?  He's a 3rd, 4th line center.  Untapped potential?  To be what? They wanted him to be a shut down center and he's no where being ready enough to go against top competition.  Smith for Hemsky is a layup deal.

I don't like Z.Smith right now, perhaps we should get that straight, but even with that said there's no way I'd move him for a rental like Hemsky. Don't see why you would. Go out into free agency and make a serious pitch for someone that doesn't cost you assets, then move Smith + for a D-man, but don't mismanage your assets.

Jesus, not to mention Hemsky is due 5.5 million in actual dollars as well as cap hit. There's no friggin way I'd do that and I'm near positive Murray's not that short sighted.
