No way in hell I'd ever want to see Cowen AND a prospect AND a 1st rounder given up for Eberle!!!!!! Crazy talk.

I think Wiercioch, 1st, prospect for Eberle might make sense too.

I think you start with Cowen for Eberle and add. And I'm right on board with doing that. Cowen + top prospect + 1st for Eberle = win for the Sens - and again, I'm a huge Cowen fan, but Eberle is a very special player.

Eberle isn't special, he was the luckiest player in the league last year. Regressed hard this year.

Cowen + 1st + top prospect for Eberle is a joke.

So he's had a rough year this year, so what? He's already proven he can play in this league at a PPG pace. I don't see the point of the argument, he's got loads of skill and a good work ethic. He'll bounce back guaranteed.

EDIT: He may have missed the PPG last season, I can't recall now.

The only thing he could look at was whether he left his feet or not. He did, very briefly, and only following the contact (basically because of the height disparity Skinner acted a bit like a fulcrum and Cowen's right skate briefly came off the ice, while the left one was already up there). But it was shoulder on chest, not at all from behind, open-ice, no boards -- like NEELY said, PERFECT.

As someone e-mailed TGOR, it shouldn't have been Larose jumping Cowen, but Skinner jumping Larose for giving him the suicide pass.

Huh....obviously I value Eberle way higher than people on here. Fair enough, I have no real basis for making the argument except I love his style of play and I love his skill level. For a young man, the sky is still the absolute limit. He can destroy it when he shakes this funk.

Eberle playing hurt this year according to Oilers radio guy on Team 1200 just a couple mins ago. They're looking for a top 4 LD he also said and will prob dangle Gagner rhis summer.

No interest from Ottawa I guess

Value might be there now, long term Cowen will be the more dominate player. Eberle is fantastic for sure but he will never have what Cowen does and that's an edge, size, a big time pressance.

Agreed, but I think Wiercioch is more expendable because of Karlsson and potentially Ceci, and Phillips will be seeing a reduced role or retire in a few years. I think Cowen will bring just as much offense as Wiercioch down the road and feel he is really underrated there. He showed what he could do when Karlsson was out last year. IMO Cowen will be their best d-man overall down the road.

Yeah, exactly this. Left side log jam or not, Cowen and Methot are the big players going forward. Wiercioch is a nice player, but if you ask me which one I'd take, it'd be Cowen all day every day. Phillips is a guy who might have to play the right side a lot more than he'd normally when all is said and done.

It's *not* Chara vs. Redden all over again. Except that it kinda is.

If Spezza isn't coming back then Gagner might be a good plan B if they want to move Weircioch.

Oh well, in that case, I couldn't agree more. Cowen won't be traded and I'm very thankful for that personally. Especially when it looks like he's come back nastier- which is precisely what we wanted. That and him on the PP to flex some of his offensive muscle.

Eberle was pretty much a PPG player last year, but you can't justify giving up 3 top assets for him.

Eberle has 0 pts in Edmonton's last six games.

Cowen for a top forward? That's just bad asset management no matter how you slice it. One may be better than the other, but then you're down a 6'5 stud dman (hasn't even reached his peak yet), and if you guys haven't noticed, our team seems to be getting smaller with conacher and JGP (and turris).

BIG FUCKING NO TO TRADING COWEN!

Philips is only there because it balances the right/left (Phillips can play right) and the other D we have are "sweethearts". Phillips used to be a big hitter and still does so on occasion, but you're right, it's the other three that love to hit.

Yep. Remember Yashin for Chara? How did that work out for the Islanders, eh?

If any team offers a young potential top 6 Bruiser I'd do it in a heartbeat, because Montreal and Toronto don't have that kind of player.

Certainly if the offer is right, you look at it, but IMO you don't rush to make any kind of move back there.

No, I agree, but I think our left side D situation is pretty comparable to our goaltending situation 1 month ago...i.e., we have more really good players at that one position than we can play, and it makes sense to start thinking about moving that excess for help in other areas... and our right side D has been a weak spot for about 1 calendar year right now.

The right side of the blueline IMO is solved now. They have Karlsson obviously and with Gryba showing what he has to this point, you can move guys around on that #3 pairing with Phillips.

I don't think people realize just how important or potentially important Gryba is to the long term success of the Sens. Him and Cowen as a pair could be deadly over a 7 game series.

For those reason, IMO Gonchar isn't resigned and they go with Wiercioch and Benoit as their #6, 7 guys next year with Borowiecki being the first callup.
