That's not a bad idea actually.
ya, I could live with that.

Puempel too. Will go a long way in showing the Murrays and Richardson and Mac where these guys are in the grand scheme of things.
Two of my least favorite prospects in terms of how I see them panning out. I watched a ton of Ceci with the 67's over the years and he always left me wanting more from him.

Seems like a Leaf move to me. I like the way the Murray's have been playing it, trading youth for youth. If San Jose wants to move Boyle and he decides he wants to play here, then we should sign Cheechoo and force him down San Jose's throat.

I don't really think that's a Leaf move. Maybe I'm blinded by the team we have and they're really not as good as I think, but Boyle to Ottawa makes sense on so many levels. He's a wonderfully talented D-man who plays in every situation and would immediately pose a major threat to teams behind Karlsson. He's also an interesting partner for Cowen IMO. He's not Karlsson, he's been around a lot longer and he might actually be a better fit for Cowen in terms of the number of mistakes he makes.

IMO, a Leaf move would be packaging Silfverberg and Zibanejad up for Bobby Ryan. The typical 'we want a superstar...now' mentality over there.

As for Cheechoo, I laughed and I agree. It would be great to shove it down Wilson's throat over there - if he still has a job come the off-season.

I like the way he handles the puck from the red line out to the offensive zone, but I've noticed him having pretty major defensive deficiencies- particularly when under intense forecheck pressure. It'll be a big deal to get him to the AHL ASAP and have Richardson work with him.

As for Puempel, the only thing that's always bothered me is his health. He's got a great release, knows where to go to score, but needs to beef up and stay healthy - and also needs a lot of coaching. Still a long term project.

not a leaf move at all. Weircioch is young but we're stacked on the left side and what better veteran than a proven winner (and ottawa boy to boot) to mentor another one in Ceci

I dunno, he trades a few players and they go up in the standings... he did something right. i don't think he's finished either. his team probably Dung the bed in the playoffs.

I'd like to think that making a move for boyle will help us but I think the Murrays will probably be better evaluators of how we are better suitors. should we just keep bringing up the kids or bring in an old vet with still some juice left to make a push.

weircioch has shown he's more then capable to play the NHL. but can he take it an extra level and be a real top 4 kind of guy? maybe they think so. maybe they hold unto him

On some of the above:

I think that the issue comes down to not only the left/right side thing, but also the O from the D thing. Methot, Gryba, Cowen, and Phillips: I love that quartet in front of my goalie, but I'm less enthused at the prospect of trying to ice 2 PP units with them being 4 of the only 6 D options we have.

BM has had a long-standing policy of trying to get a little O out of every D pairing -- he's been saying that since he passed on Volchenkov and signed Gonchar. For that reason, I think they look for another right side D who brings more offense to the table. It's also why I think moving Wiercioch would be a tough pill to swallow -- if you lose Gonchar, literally only he and Karlsson bring any real creativity and offense.

This would be a whole lot easier if we had one forward on our team who could consistently play the point on the PP.

Kerry Fraser sure thinks that Cowen's hit on Skinner was illegal:
-----
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=421098

"The hit by Jared Cowen on Jeff Skinner is illegal hit on two fronts. First Cowen left his feet to make the hit and should result in a charging penalty.

Secondly, through this "elevation" by the 6'5" Cowen, the head of Jeff Skinner, generously listed at 5'11," became the principle point of contact. Given the size differential, combined with the upward launch when Cowen's skates left the ice, it would be next to impossible for Skinner's head not to become the principle point of contact."
-----

Wow. I didn't see Cowen leave his feet until afterwards (a result of being a lot taller than Skinner)...but I did think he got mainly head, which is somewhat unavoidable given the size difference. Interesting.

I didn't see him leaving his feet until after the hit on follow through. It's a tough call with that size mismatch. And Skinner was reaching so it made things worse. What Fraser seems to be forgetting is that the rule requires the head to also be targeted, not just the principle point of contact.

He only "left his feet" after the hit, where Skinner acted as a fulcrum. As soon as the skate lifted off the ice it was brought back down by gravity. The "elevation" was only due to the size disparity, because Cowen had to pretty much squat down to make sure he didn't hit the head. This wasn't like a patented Colby Armstrong hit at all.

Hate to agree with Leafs fans, but Fraser is blind.
