EDIT: I hate this kind of player and this to me represents a waste of a roster spot, but with everyone being injured, I guess it doesn't matter.

Weircioch and Phillips both fought the last 2 games, you know that right?

Meh...that's not gonna happen often.

It shouldn't happen ever, that's the point.

Kassian could fit in well with a young core of guys though, Parros is probably a little gray in terms of finding chemistry with this team. Kassian knows some of the guys, is around the same age, and is looking to solidify himself as a legit NHL player in one form or another. Probably a guy that will do whatever it takes, he has something to prove.

I like this move a lot because they will all play with their heads a little higher and takes some really tough minutes away from other guys. I wanted a move like this since that Toronto game where DD got knocked out.

not to mention that Kassian wouldnt have been on the ice to fight in their place. he'll be used in staged fights only, yay

Yah, again, not the point. People seem to thinkthat Kassian isn't a need in a division with the Leafs, Bruins, and Sabres. Sens need to know that if things get wild they have a guy that will go out there and do what he wants and fight anyone, it's a need right now and everyone has seen why.

He's the same age as a lot of legit heavyweights start to find their legs in the NHL and he fits right in with a young core. Hopefully he's a guy that will find his role, do his job, and become part of this team for 4 or 5 years.

Ah. I missed most of the last few games. I'm teaching and taking another course on the side. It keeps me busy.

Well Regin, Daugavins and JOB aren't going to like this, even less icetime for them.

Should've kept Konopka if this is what they wanted, at least he contributes more, yes he is more of a wrestler than a fighter but he has causing all sorts of havoc in the NYR series.

But I guess the rest of the division made the decision for us.

What is the reason we didn't take him on waivers again? Now he can pass up and down without going through waivers? I don't understand that part.

Team was rolling when he went on waivers as well, can't predict the future really. Giving up a 6th in over a year for a guy who will add something the team is missing is basically adding him for free. The Sens depth in the organization is fantastic and those draft picks don't mean nearly as much as they did a couple years ago.

If the Sens want someone bad enough in the 6th round in 2014, and they don't have a pick, it's not hard to get one. Sens wanted a guy bad enough in the 1st round in Peumpel and they found a way to snag him.

As for the waiver thing, if he does go on waivers at some point Minny doesn't have first claim and any team adding him will have to keep them on their roster other wise he goes back on waivers if he's moved and you can't trade him either.

Let's just wait and see how much Kassian plays...it's not going to be every game, so let's hold off on the "he's taking ice time away from the kids" panic.

I'd be surprised if he plays in half our games remaining. He's our nuclear deterrent, which isn't a bad thing to have. It does lessen the intimidation factor other teams might have on us. Trust in the Murrays.

Who ever is using that as some sort of reason is flat out, a moron. How much ice time is he taking away from DD? How much ice time is he taking away from Daugavins? How much ice time is he taking away from Regin? Fact of the matter is there are guys who are going to be rotating in and out depending on the game and that now includes Kassian.

Also, if you look at Kassian's TOI numbers, they were trending upward until Minny went out and got some more experienced guys to fill the role Kassian was signed to do. There is no reason to think that under MacLean (unless he truly can't keep up with Ottawa's pace) that he can't play 8-10 mins a night and hopefully play mistake free hockey when MacLean want's 4 lines rolled.

He will probably play in 1/2 the games in a normal season, be there when you play the Boston's, Toronto's, and Buffalo's, and sit against the Canadians, Red Wings, and Lightnings. As long as he doesn't go out there trying to justify his place on the ice by having staged fights, doesn't do anything stupid, and learns to play his role, he will be fine. 8 mins of ice a night for a guy like that is as good as gold, just needs to play smart and don't do anything to hurt his team.

Everyone will feel a little bit taller because they know he's there.

Kassian's a -3 in 28 career NHL games, so it's not like he's a total liability on the ice.

I always enjoy having guys like this around, because when someone does something stupid to a teammate out on the ice, you can count on VENGEANCE!!!!! Remember what Carks did to Boyle in the playoffs last year? Who exactly would fill that role now? Kassian.

Also, the guys Twitter handle is Kassassination, and that's just awesome.

Much rather have a 4th line winger out for 5-15 mins in the box than a D man as well. Carkner was a beast for the Sens but it did hurt the team when your D men get double shifted because the guy that takes care of business is on the blueline.

Also, getting a 26 year old in to fit in with all guys around the same age for the most part is smart. Parros, while probably better at the job than Kassian is at this point could very well be on his way out in terms of being a legit top heavyweight and may just not fit in well with a young group.

I still like this move a lot.

From what I can find out, Kassian also appeared to be fairly involved with charity work, so he's probably one of these "character" guys that Murray loves.

I think #29 brought this up originally, asking why didn't we get him for half-price. You only get that one re-entry waivers, and I don't think he ever went through those. He was with the team at the start of the season, did not get into any games, then was waived and sent to the AHL. We traded for him while he was down there. As NEELY explained, there are advantages in trading for him versus picking him off waivers -- at the cost of a 6th rounder in 2014. There was never the cost of half his salary.

There is value in that as well. This is a guy that will do a lot of work off the ice and hopefully embrace Ottawa and vis versa. The right type of guy in this role is always important... there's a reason Ben Eager isn't in Ottawa right now who is probably a better player and guy that could have been had for the exact same price.

Eager is an idiot though.

I hope Kassian has some semblance of hcokey skills and is more than John Scott on the ice.
