Went to Costco last night in Kanata and it was surprisingly not busy. My theory was that Tanger was occupying most people.

That's a win for you.

Did you see the fireworks they had out at the mall? I had a team/parents meeting at 8 and I think the fireworks started around 8:30. Wonder if the smell of sulfur from the fireworks masked the smell of overflowing toilets.

Didn't see or hear the fireworks. By that time I was nestled safely in my basement.

Nothing to do with household, but is anyone aware of any place that would rent out hockey jerseys? Had an idea for pallbearers to wear Habs jerseys (he was a great Habs fan) but, understandably, we are a few short.

Anyone know how to get two modems working on one internet service? I tried plugging in and connecting to a second modem and I got an authentication error. Do I need to call my ISP to have them set it up?

My hope is to have the new modem set up so that anything connected to it thinks it's connecting in the USA and the other normal so that I just need to switch from one to the other depending on if I want american or Canadian content.

I think you mean router, not modem. Need to know exactly what you have.

If you have two wireless routers then you should be able to plug the second one into an Ethernet port on the first one and set up a second wireless network. Then you configure one wireless router for default DNS and the other one for the US one.

I have both a smart TV and a PS3. The PS3 is configured to use the default DNS server and the smart TV is using the dnsproxy server so I get US content.

Two wireless routers yes. I was hoping to have the two routers on different floors. That won't work?

The one has to be tethered to the other with an Ethernet cord?

You can set up the one not plugged into your modem as a wireless bridge, so it doesn't need to be wired to the other router, but I don't know if you can have have different DNSs while doing that.

How do you bridge them?

You should be able to turn off the router functions on one of them so it will only act as a bridge.

If you still have the manual for the one you want to set up as a bridge, it should have instructions for this.

Setting it up in bridge mode kinda defeats the purpose.  He wants to set them up with different (I assume) DNS settings in order to have Canadian content on one floor and US on another.

What devices do you have for Netflix?  With a smart TV you should be able to set up your DNS server.  In my setup I have auto settings on my wireless router and PS3, so Netflix via the PS3 gets Canadian content; the smart SV is configured to use the ProxyDNS server, so US content.

Upstairs I'm using ChromeCast and that is fixed to use Google DNS.  Not sure how it works or doesn't work, but when I configure my tablet to use ProxyDNS and cast to the ChromeCast dongle, it won't play.  I can select the US content, but when I try to play it won't buffer past around 10%.  Must be some kind of secondary protocol between server and playback device (ChromeCast) and it gets blocked there.

So I'm in the market for a couple window fans.  Exciting stuff, I know.

Looking at one on Costco's website, the description is hilarious.

http://www.costco.ca/Bionaire%C2%AE-Energy-Saving-Manual-Thin-Window-Fan-.product.100110416.html

"This electronic window fan disperses invigorating, revitalizing coolness for maximum comfort and freshness. Lifeless air dissipates to breaths of nourishing air and the renewing effects of cooler air become more present in your surroundings. It is more powerful with 40% greater air velocity compared to similar window fans and 25% more compact to reduce window obstruction. With Bionaire® brand technology, you can live in harmony with nature for a serene home environment."

On this incredible dull subject, anyone have a window fan they care to recommend or slander?

Looks like a pretty good deal compared to the "cheap" Sunbeam models I am accustomed to. The Sunbeams are good and durable, though.

I'm just thrilled at the opportunity to finally live in harmony with nature.

Yeah, I found the Sunbeam "box" fan along with a couple other varieties. Reading the internet reviews is fun...half of reviews will say stuff like "It doesn't push any air and is super loud" and then the other half for the same fan will say "It blows like crazy and is so quiet!"
