This is starting to get interesting.im with teksavvy right now.

Although it seems I’d be paying a minimum of 40$ a month just to get sports.

It seems ok but I bet they still have localblackouts on games.
Still, maybe it’s in the right direction.

What’s basic cable and sports add on run you guys in Ottawa?

I'm not sure what it runs exactly. When I cancelled my cable last year, I was paying around $90/month (no bundle) for Rogers VIP package, which included all the sports channels.

Sounds like you’d be saving 20 some bucks.

The streaming of hockey games has gotten so good that I wonder if it’s even worth it to go through cable anymore.
I’ve considered game centre a few times. Maybe I will someday when they stop blocking games(even though I have a VPN)

Since I won't have SNet and TSN next season I was planning on just watching game recaps on YouTube. PQ is pretty good for most games. As it was, I almost never watched a game live, always ffd on the PVR. When the Sens get good again I might get something else.

You can always stream if you can watch live.

You used to be able to find and download old NHL games after the fact... no more.

Called today to cancel Bell and found out that my contact is actually up a year from now. I guess I kept Rogers for the first year after I moved.

Crap.

You can cancel and pay a $150 fee

Yeah I know. Undecided as to what I should do. They have not been able to provide a service with the money I paid. I should be able to say pay me back for the last 12 months and did it for the next 12, or I'll cancel and won't pay the cancellation fee.

Well, my Keurig is toast. Put a litre of vinegar through it to de-scale, scraped all the needle holes with various size paperclips, but it still won't make a cup in one try (have to run it 2-3 times before the cup is full). Just ordered a new K90 Elite. Just $113 on eBay (vs. $150 at Costco and more everywhere else).

One thing to watch out for on eBay is fakes. I have no idea if fake Keurig's exist or not, but I'd do a few minutes of research to find out. I know a guy that recently got a knock-off video card for his computer (a fake Nvidia) and another guy that got a fake Taylor Made driver.

Geez, how do you fake an Nvidea? I have a feeling there may be refurb or returns but the ad says "new". Could be just open box new items. Him give with those.

Well, it arrived yesterday. Doesn't look like a fake. Not much of a difference from my old one. Comes with a filter, has the "strong cup" feature (keeps the water in the kcup a little longer).

Scam? I think so.

I recently completed my tax return (self employed, so I've got plenty of time). There was about $500 that in suppressed to get back from my HST return. I *think* they will send a cheque.

Yesterday I received an email from "Canada Revenue Agency" (noreply@canada.ca). On it they said my refund of $520 is available. And then a somewhat ominous "Don't miss your payment".
I think that's just the scammer's bad grammar showing through. Probably meant to say "Don't miss the most coming to you (payment)". Later on there was another grammar mistake ("... the link expire's ...")

It was also sent to my @aim.com email address which I've been trying to deprecate for a while. I was pretty sure CRA issued my Gmail one.

One thing I learned when I went to CRA's page on how to spot a scam, was that the only time they will include links in an email is when you request a form by phone and they send you a link to the form. Needless to say this email had a couple links (didn't click, so don't know where they went).

The thing that bugs me is the timing and the amount; this isn't exactly tax filing season. We're more than a month past the deadline for individuals. And then the amount. I don't believe in *that much* coincidence.

I think there's someone on the inside feeding relevant information to the scammer's. Like "w Prager is expecting a refund of $520". Scammer looks through his database of harvested email addresses and finds wprager@aim.com add away we go.

I've got a buddy who works at CRA. I'll ping him.
