And Smith brings a lot of sandpaper and hitting and some offense, I wouldn't want to move him either now that we've traded Foligno.

Smith is a little less expendable now than he was at seasons end for sure and IMO, I think that was the choice they made between Foligno vs Smith. I think it's the right one.

You don't trade a guy who does this to Fattie Phil Queso.

That hit is nothing. That's not even a hit. Now I want to trade Smith for not decapatating Kessel.

It's not so much a hit as to the fact that Kessel tried to hit him and bounced right off.

If Smith does that in his 1st year, he'll be a monster down the road.

If I'm Murray, I'm not moving:

Michalek
Smith
Greening
Spezza
Turris
Neil

from the forward ranks. :crossarms:

For Ryan -- it would probably be:

Zibanejad
Bishop or Lehner
+ either a 2013 first round or another top prospect..

All of this for a player who will most likely walk away as a UFA in 3 yrs.

He's a great player.. but it will be too much to give up for just 3 years.

Turn away Murray... try for Corey Perry next year. Read on Senschirp a commenter wrote that Perry has close relatives in Ottawa... whether that helps or not.

Sooner Perry as a UFA signed long term... than a player you have to give up a lot for -- for 3 yrs.

We'll be in competition with 25 other teams + he'll be looking for the same deal as Parise - if not more. He's a former MVP at a young age, a 50 goal scorer (I think), has had playoff success. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him sign a long term 8 million dollar deal - which we won't be doing.

Trade is the route to go IMO. Keep building your prospect pool, when you have an abundance, make smart trades. And IMO, Ryan would be a smart trade. You have him for 2 years, in the summer before the final year of his contract, you either re-sign him, or trade him.

Won't get back what you gave up to get him, since if we're trading him at that point, it means he won't resign with us.

So give up a lot for a 2-year loan on Ryan.

What would you get back for Ryan with a year left? Hopefully a top prospect.

Well it would cost you two top prospects and a roster player to get him now ....

Zibby's making a habit of it, though.

Minimum 3 top components are required. Not that Ryan is worth it necessarily but with so many teams bidding, and no NMC like with Nash, the price will be ridiculous. I don't think Zibenajed/Lehner/1st would be enough, even though it is more than fair.

Not sure about his character. He seems like the type to want to hit the FA market first chance he gets.

That's not bad value - depending on the roster player. Kid could score 80 goals in the next two seasons with Spezza.

I'd rather not trade for Ryan. I get his value and understand why he'll garner a big package, but I don't think it's in the Sens best interest to make that type of move. And honestly, I don't think Anaheim makes a deal without Turris in there somehow, and obviously that's a non-starter on our end.

Always had some trepidation about Ryan. I gave a bad feeling about him, although his skill is awesome.
