For sure. More of a plug that would fit into the 6 role but good depth none the less. I will bet you that Boroweicki is playing top 4 mins by the 1/2 way point in the season though.

He has a $3M cap hit, that's a lot for a #6 plug/depth role.

It is but he's a good player. Not a sure fire top 4 but he can fill that role for a short period of time IMO. Sens need to spend some cash back there if they want to compete and Methot will play that kind of game.

Take a long look at how our defence shakes out for next year as of right now. Ok, even a short look.

Yes, he'd be useful, and he's a local boy.

I know the state of our blueline, I am more wondering how good of a player is Methot and whether he'd be an upgrade or not.

Ok, sarcastic reply revoked.

Like Neely said, he'd be a decent depth guy. Something we'll need.

Does anyone else think that Bishop isn't in play. I don't know that it's Murray's style to get Bishop to sign a 1 year deal giving up UFA status only to trade him away.

That is unless he goes to Bishop and says "you're going to be a backup for the next couple of years..or we have a opportunity to trade you to Columbus where you're likely to be the starter. We'll only do it if you want us to"

Thoughts?

I think if Murray has a choice to move Bishop or Lehner it's a no brainer. Lehner has that it factor that may turn into a franchise goaltender. Bishop is very solid, might be a #1 in the short term but he's not there yet.

Don't think it matters how he was aquired, it's professional sports and it's all part of it.

The waters have been muddied in recent days with the revelation that Anaheim is willing to part with forward Bobby Ryan. This does not help Howson's case at all, as Ryan and Nash are similar players, except that Ryan is younger (25 vs. 28) and cheaper ($5.1 million cap hit through 2014-15 vs. Nash's $7.8 million through 2017-18). The asking price for Ryan is said to be lower than what the Blue Jackets are seeking for Nash, too.

Doooo it

There is some speculation, btw, that SJ's Douglas Murray might be available after the Brad Stuart signing:

"With Brad Stuart signing in San Jose, I would expect Douglas Murray to be shopped. They are very similar defensemen. Burns, Boyle, Stuart, and Vlasic is a very solid top four. Justin Braun looks to be on his way to becoming a good one, too. The jury is still out on Jason Demers, who had a forgettable 2011-12 season."

That would be a nice add. Tyutin for offense and young Doug Murray to shore up the defensive side. Good idea, poo.

Not sold on Murray... might be a little too slow but in the East you def need a big shot blocker and a guy that will get dirty. Might be an option but he has some tough miles on him, much like A Train.

He can still be effective though. It all comes down to cost/term for me.

Not sure about cost but Murray only has 1 year left at $2.5M.

But yeah I imagine he's worn down a lot.

Murray would up our "ugly" quotient nicely though, after losing A-Train and Leclaire.

Man, I almost forgot how Uglo-American Leclaire is.

Dude fell out of the Ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

That explains his injury problems as well.
