Fat Head's kickin' the tires on Brassard?

How good would Nash be on this team, right?!?

Drool

I can't even imagine how expensive he'd be. Karlsson? Spezza, 1st, ++?

I think it'd be more like Z-Bad + 1st + Puempel/Noesen +
I don't know. They'll want someone to walk onto the team. Take Nash away and what's left? Carter? Umberger?

Left on the team? As little as possible if I were GM. Everyone must go. Everyone.

Nash - gone for a big package of blue chippers

Carter - ditto

Umberger - anyone? I want a 2nd + blue chip please!

Brassard - blue chip or high 1st please!

Vermette - see Brassard

The Wiz - 1st or blue chip please!

Mason - will flip for established NHL goalie - may add if needed

Have I missed anyone?

Colton Gillies for dip to go with those blue chips.

Cross that bridge when you come to it. Hopefully you can take back some near NHL talent that can play next year + you'd never be able to trade The Wiz anyway, so that's a bit left for the cap floor. Bottom line for me, you need to start fresh in Columbus and hope your franchise doesn't go bust in the meantime.

Laugh1 So, they have Johansen, Prospal, Letetsu, and Gillies up front. Then they dip into their prospect pool. Ya, they won't have to overpay the field of (basically no) UFAs this July. Sarcasm

They dump the team, they probably end up folding.

But you dumped everyone for picks. The only way they could make the floor is if you overpay like crazy, thus putting them right where they are now, but with Langkow and Stoll instead of Umberger and Vermette. Laugh1

Which of those guys I listed is worth keeping? Nash? Maybe, but the return might be worth it - say you get a blue chip prospect that's ready to step in and infuse some energy into that dead lineup. Carter? Not IMO, I would trade that guy without question. Pahlsson - as good as gone.

Perhaps you keep Vermette and Umberger, but this is a lineup that has shown no spunk, no energy at all. You need to purge them and get fresh faced youth in there.

I agree that the team is brutal, but you can't take a team like that and dump everyone for picks. You can't just sort it out later, you need to have a plan. If they drop the entire team, they'll only get UFAs that they massively overpay. They'd be worse off by the start of the next season.

The team is screwed, but I don't think trying to swap the entire roster out is the solution.

They need to blow up management over there (and coaching) before they blow up the team. Although I think they'll trade a lot of them.

I think they'll keep Nash, the only marketable player on the team, how are they going to sell tickets ? (as little as they're going to sell).

No worries though, if you're trading any of these guys to contenders, they'll likely want to send you a contract as well as the prospect/pick. There are several different ways to make it to the cap floor - and worrying about overpaying UFAs shouldn't be in anyone's mind. A lot of guys will have a hard time finding a job with any team, so when the BJs come calling on a 1 or 2 max year contract in August, it can suddenly look pretty appealing.

I think you can possibly insert some younger players as well next year - such as David Savard (full time), Calvert (full time), Kubalik etc. + another 4 or 5 that you acquire that can be streamlined straight into the NHL.

The only problem here is that they may not survive that kind of full rebuild - which is a major issue obviously.

100%.

They need to fire Howsen and let the new GM come in with a rebuild strategy to sell to the fans first and foremost. Then they need to hire an all-new scouting department - from top to bottom - so they don't Diddle up so much all the time. Not sure why they still have Howsen right now, this is the most serious deadline that they've ever been a part of. They need to make sure they do the right thing with Carter and get back the return needed - or wait until the draft to do it. They also need to make major decisions on Mason, Wiz, Vermette, Umberger and especially Nash. Pahlsson, Huselius, Lebda, Martinek - all gone. No UFAs can walk on July 1 unless they're pure garbage, you MUST get an asset for them - even if it's a 5th rounder at the 11th hour.

Yeah, he's a big part of the future in Columbus for sure, starting opening night next year.

Lebrun says that he thinks Zidlicky could move any day now. Could he still thrive in a more upbeat system? He's 34 now I believe and has another year @ 4 mil, but he's one year removed from a 43 point season and last year he had 30 points in 40 some games.

I guess Jim Clark wasted a scouting trip for nothing.

Columbus is apparently ready to listen to any offers for Rick Nash that will help them in the long run...

The Rags have offered up Dubinsky, Kreider and a 1st says 2GOR, obviously originating elsewhere.
