A guy that MIGHT be a good fit if available is Ryan Smyth.

As long as the cost is very low maybe, otherwise what does he really bring that Carkner doesn't? Experience in the regular season maybe, but he's got no real playoff experience at all and has been pretty underwhelming the last few years.

Not sure...

A left-hand shot.

Meh, we have Cowen, Phillips, Kuba for that. Gonchar too.

Gonchar plays the right side. We have exactly *3* defensemen who play the left side.

Did a little bit of research this morning and the guys I think I would try and get would be Dominic Moore or Brenden Morrisson. Lots of time until the deadline though, so other teams might fall out of the race.

His price tag might be high considering the season he's having, his purported "leadership", and experience. Not sure if he'd want to leave Edmonton after the kerfuffle to get him there.

Dominic Moore and Brendan Morrison, as mentioned, aren't bad choices.

May I ask why we even need a forward? Unless it's someone like Bobby Ryan or Perry, why would we do that? We're what, top 5 in the league in goals...what we need is a guy to replace Carkner (no offense!) on the 3rd pairing - or at least make Carkner the 7th guy.

If Andy Sutton didn't suck so hard in the playoffs for us, I'd say he'd be perfect, but then he's also a villain being suspended over and over this year.

I think we can do better than Greening and/or Condra in the top-6 (in the long run). Not that they suck or anything just that we can do better.

Ideally shift some of our forwards one line down so we can roll 4 dangerous lines.

It's working though, right?

How about Cammelleri? I'd love to have that guy and there's like...zero chance he finishes the year in Montreal IMO. 6 million bones is an issue, but if he's free, I'd take him.

It's not a question of whether if it's working or not, it's how can we possibly make it better. For example Replace Greening with Parise on the top line ... Move Greening down and replace Condra and you've got a leftie on Turris's line and Condra can be somewhere else on the right side.

Cammaleri is small, overpaid and doesn't strike as a 200ft player that would fit with MacLean's system. Plus I don't think he's the best character in the locker room, his latest comments about the Habs playing like 'losers'.

I think he's telling it like it is - and I think his attitude is actually pretty good from what I've heard.

Well, Murray said yesterday that if he adds anything, it'll be a forward. He said he's happy with our D.

I would argue that we could use both a depth forward and a depth defenceman if we're heading into the playoffs.

If they do trade him I really doubt it'll be to a division rival, he'll go West. We shouldn't be helping Montreal out of salary cap hell anyway Smile

Isn't it safe to say Elliott would never post such numbers here in Ottawa ?

Who knows. The guy has pride and works his Donkey off. He probably took ownership of his own lack of success and did whatever he could to turn himself around.

I always liked Elliott. It was not his fault. He was just thrown into a situation with too high expectations. He let guys like Buffet get to him. etc.

I'm glad he's having his day in the sun....

I'm sure he could have been better. Well, that's pretty obvious with the season he's having now and the seasons he had prior to the last one, right?

Anyway, he deserves to have success as far as I'm concerned.

Good for him, but he didn't help anyone (except maybe himself) by sucking like a vacuum when he was here.
