Ha. Really, Buffet?

Vancouver GM Mike Gillis, a longtime reader of this space, has been working the phones.

Gill is a leftie, no room for him here really.

A RH D-man so we don't have to play Carkner in the playoffs would be a better choice.

I've said it before....gill to Ottawa makes a ton of sense.

It would be better but gill plays outside of top 4 minutes and mainly shows his worth on the PK. He would be a great addition Imo. He was a key component in pittsburgh and montreal's run in the playoffs.

Yes I know how important Gill is in the playoffs but it would mean that one of Kuba, Cowen and Philips were to get scratched to play him (unless one of them goes down). It may happen, Murray wants a top-6 forward but pretty much every playoff team wants one, they are rare and expensive.

The weakest link on D is the revolving door spot that alternates between Carkner and Lee. Unless one of them somehow secures it by the deadline, each player has pros and cons.

The only "d" we need is "depth". A 5/6 D on the left side is pretty much a necessity. Right now that could very well be Borowiecki. On the right side, I have to admit that, after last night, I'm thinking of joining the "Sit Carkner" wagon. Woof, he was horrible, and lucky.

what in the world are you talking about? I"m saying to sit both Lee and Carkner and have a 3rd pairing of lefties. It's not ideal but its better than the status quo. If you can get a righty who can do that as well, by all means they should go get him.

what do you guys think about bringing Sutton back? I always liked the toughness he brought when we had him a couple seasons ago

He fell apart in the playoffs. And, repeating someone else's question, who sits in order to get him in: Cowen, Kuba or Cowen? Cowen brings the same toughness with better speed. He lacks experience in the playoffs, but he certainly did better in the Calder Cup finals than Mt. Sutton did in the playoffs with the Sens.

Oh my god....why are we only targeting these three??? (assuming u meant to add phillips). I get the left-handed argument but seriously people, both Volchenkov and Phillips were lefties and they seemed all right as the top shutdown pair no? So what is the deal with everyone's obsession of having this righty-lefty matchup on the 3rd pairing???

I'm sure it's because one, or both or those guys are one of the rare, elite exceptions that can adjust to playing their off-side. OR, one of them is actually a left-shooting right-side D.

If you can argue that the lefty-righty combo of phillips-Carkner(Lee) works better than a combo of phillips-Gill/Gleason, then I'll lay off this argument. I'm not disputing that its better to have lefty-righty combos but seriously in our situation on the 3rd pairing, its kind of a moot point with our current options.

how in the world did we ever play Boro without taking out one of Cowen, Phillips, or Kuba....

Depends on how adept they would be at playing their off side. It can be a big mistake. How long until Carkner is in game form is the next question?
