Any Ottawa Senators trade rumours?

Bob McKenzie said on Montreal radio this morning that Ottawa will be looking to "upgrade" because they're a for-real playoff team.

That always makes me nervous. I'd prefer not to lose assets unless we're getting someone back who makes a real difference - and preferably someone under contract next year at least. I've grown to dislike rentals quite a bit.

Murray and Melnyk both commented on it. They are talking about it, obviously but they are reluctant and careful not to mess with the chemistry of the team that got us here. We could theoretically make the team worse by trading a key player away. I believe Murray said he will not go for a rental, try and bring in someone who could be a fixture here for years (like Turris trade).

I think calling up Petersson and Boro is part of it(arguably Bingo 2 best players) and seeing if we can "upgrade" from within first.

I still think they should stick with the plan and try and bring up the best players from Bingo's Calder Cup win. Those guys all came together and won against all odds. That's the type of chemistry and camaraderie we need to build and maintain here.

Turris has fit in very well, we have to be careful not to bring in someone who doesn't. This team is very tight, we don't a locker room cancer.

The only problem there is that Silfverberg is in Sweden, so Bingo doesn't really have a sniper to offer for our stretch run - which is almost literally the only thing I'd worry about. I hope we don't go out and acquire some 4th line guy, that's 100% not needed with guys like O'Brien and even Grant who could easily play 5 minutes a night and not be any worse for it.

What we need is a natural goal scorer to play with Spezza since we appear to be taking Michalek away from him. Is Petersson that guy? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it yet.

Well you're not going to get a natural goal scorer without paying a king's ransom.

And why can't Petersson be the guy ? He's a talented goal scored with a killer shot. Concerns about his health, size and ability to adapt to the NA game seem to be non issues as he's adapted and performed very well in Bingo.

At this point we need to see how he is in the NHL, he's certainly earned the right to get a shot. At who's expense is a bigger question.

Probably the guy that's getting traded.

I'm thinking that Bobby Butler is about to "explode".

He might be in all honesty. He's looked damn good lately - and has hit a couple of posts and a crossbar.

If Petersson and Borowiecki are indeed NHL material, they should be added depth not upgrades for the playoffs.

I dunno why I think that about Petersson. He's looked beautiful recently apparently and has admitted to just getting used to NA ice. Perhaps deep down I think he needs the rest of this year in the AHL before he can be counted on in any way, plus the guy is always banged up - in the AHL no less.

I continue to think T.Ruutu is a good possibility. And if LA wants to shed Fat Penner for nothing, he might fit in as well. Who knows...

If they're NHL material, then they are the depth. The issue will continue to be: who can score on Spezza's wing consistently - and who can add some playoff experience to the Sens lineup.

That there is a good player right there.

He is. And I think he fits into our plans beyond this year if we acquire him.

I don't think Murray is much of a renter anyway. I wouldn't worry about our precious "cupboard" too much.

Tuomo Ruuto will be a target by many teams and wont come cheap.

Petersson and Boro can be depth for the playoffs but they could potentially replace someone down the line as well. Unlikely but possible.

MacLean expects his top forwards to produce, that's how it is. If someone can come in and outproduce them then they are in.

Butler is probably the only candidate, he's looking better and trying hard but ultimately its the scoresheet that will be his judge.

Daugavins and Condra are a big part of our PK, they're not going anywhere.

I love our cupboard, with all the great Swedish content in it it's clearly from IKEA(not Jysk) Laugh1

I just checked his stats. 5 goals since the trade. That's remarkable. Personally, I don't want Pancakes anywhere near this team.
