I don't think Murray is much of a renter anyway. I wouldn't worry about our precious "cupboard" too much.

I love our cupboard, with all the great Swedish content in it it's clearly from IKEA(not Jysk) Laugh1

Tuomo Ruuto will be a target by many teams and wont come cheap.

Maybe Probably Murray gets in on the sweeps well ahead of the deadline.

What we need is a natural goal scorer to play with Spezza since we appear to be taking Michalek away from him. Is Petersson that guy? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it yet.

Well you're not going to get a natural goal scorer without paying a king's ransom.

And why can't Petersson be the guy ? He's a talented goal scored with a killer shot. Concerns about his health, size and ability to adapt to the NA game seem to be non issues as he's adapted and performed very well in Bingo.

At this point we need to see how he is in the NHL, he's certainly earned the right to get a shot. At who's expense is a bigger question.

I dunno why I think that about Petersson. He's looked beautiful recently apparently and has admitted to just getting used to NA ice. Perhaps deep down I think he needs the rest of this year in the AHL before he can be counted on in any way, plus the guy is always banged up - in the AHL no less.

I continue to think T.Ruutu is a good possibility. And if LA wants to shed Fat Penner for nothing, he might fit in as well. Who knows...

I just checked his stats. 5 goals since the trade. That's remarkable. Personally, I don't want Pancakes anywhere near this team.

He is. And I think he fits into our plans beyond this year if we acquire him.

Does he? Even with Silf, ZBad, Petersson, SDC, etc all looking for spots?

I like Ruutu, but I don't know that he fits past this year.

I'm of the opinion that you just can't have too many awesome players. Sarcasm

If we were to acquire a guy we could keep beyond this season, I'd say that one of Z-Bad or Silf would either play on the 3rd line, or they'd play in the AHL until they're 100% ready. With Da Costa, Hoffman, Stone, Petersson etc. all jockeying for position, it creates a really competitive roster - perhaps even more than it is now - and that's never a bad thing.

That said, I'm a fan of doing this the traditional way - which is to say: I like this team as it is personally. I'd be quite content to make a token move for a guy like Boynton or the guy the Flyers had last year who I can't even remember...the veteran, older, 3rd pairing guy. Someone like that to buoy the 3rd pairing and call it a day. Hopefully not spend more than a 3rd rounder + Lee.

I think Murray should go out and get Erik Cole. I think Erik Cole would be a good fit on the Sens, and Murray should go get him.

unless we go get a fantastic player that sticks around for years to come I say we stand pat. no rentals please BM.
there's enough players that will be vying for a spot on the 2nd, 3rd and 4rth ine next year that the only position that makes sense to try and fill is the position greening is filling at the moment. he's doing a good job but not really a first line player. those players are far and few in between and will likely not come cheap. is it worth it? probably not at the cost of the future.

Yeah, he's actually a pretty good player too. I find those most times we've put him in this year or last, he's been pretty solid. Most people on here have said that he doesn't really excel at anything on D though and that hurts him for sure.

Am I alone in wanting nothing but a rental? I think roster spots will be at a premium next year with mostly everyone coming back and guys like Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Hoffman, Da Costa, ect fighting for spots.

I also don't think I would move anything of great value either, regardless of the strides we've taken this season. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm kind of hoping we are quiet on trade deadline day, with a minor move or two to shore up depth.

I would inquire about guys like B.Morrison, Stempniak, McClement, Prospal, Brodziak, Pyatt or D.Moore long before overpaying for the "big names".

Like that Michael Jackson song.....you are not alone.... MJ

Big names should be targeted in the off-season if need be. I think ur forward depth is honestly very good for now. We need something on the back-end. People are tired of hearing it, but Hal Gill is ripe for the picking.

With 7 NHL ready defenceman + Borowiecki as a potential black ace I don't think I would be too worried about our defensive depth. A major injury would throw in a wrench in that depth in a hurry, but for now I think we're fine.

I'd love to see Bobby Butler + in exchange for a more veteran presence (Prospal being on the high end of that and a guy like Pyatt or Stempniak being on the low end)

Injury is a big worry and I'd rather take some pressure of our young guys like Cowen and, if need be, Borocop. He hasn't even played an NHL game yet. Ease them in I say. He's a stanley cup winner as well and is known as a key shutdown guy in the playoffs. No-brainer IMO

If we were going to make a move for a defenceman I would rather more of a #7 type of guy than Hal Gill, but I completely understand the injury issue. It hadn't hit me until right now how much an injury to Gonchar, Cowen or Kuba would hurt us (without even mentioning Karlsson who would obviously leave a huge hole).

I think Murray will be active on all fronts though, so it should be interesting to see what shakes out.

Yeah exactly. Kuba is my biggest worry actually. Gill will be in high demand and I'm sure will 100% be dealt (unless montreal makes a miraculous turnaround).

Hopefully BMurr lands someone useful.
