I agree, but if we're going for a 'substantial' piece as Murray has been quoted as saying, I'd rather not it be a rental.

Yeah a 'substantial piece' to me says anything but a rental and Murray thinks our top-6 could be better but our defence is fine
Ryan is the best out there (assuming they really would trade him) not sure what other young promising forwards (like Turris) are out there.

I wonder who will be gone by the deadline?

Look at any non-playoff team and get a list of their pending UFAs, that's a start.
Maybe get Brad Boyes from Buffalo, always talked about it before and now he's a pending UFA and Regier will have to start cleaning house there at some point.
Maybe MacLean can get him scoring closer to the 40+ goals he put in for St. Louis before.
Flo The Action wrote:I can't say I'd want to sell the farm to get ryan but one thing I know is they haven't pulled the trigger on B Ryan yet so that tells me no one has yet to offer the moon for his services. With his off year right now it's a case of buy low for GM's interested I would imagine.
I'm not opposed to going after him. I'd be ok with z-bad and a first but not really more. It's a take it or leave it thing and see if in the end they go for it. If not we can always try and shower money on Parise in July

Maybe Phoenix can ruin him all over again.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples reports former NHL GM and Sportsnet analyst Doug MacLean believes Oilers winger Ales Hemsky will “most definitely be traded at the deadline.” MacLean listed Ottawa, Washington, Vancouver, Detroit and San Jose as potential destinations for Hemsky, while fellow analyst Nick Kypreos listed Chicago, Pittsburgh and Detroit. MacLean doesn’t believe Hemsky will fetch a big return for the Oilers.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s because of his injury history and poor numbers this season. Still, I agree with MacLean that Hemsky will be moved by the trade deadline. It’s just a question of where.
tim1_2 wrote:Yeah, this looks like the year Hemsky will finally be traded.
He has lots of skill, but I'm not sure I want him. He's very injury-prone, and I question his character.
That said, if the price is reasonable, the potential upside here is tremendous. What would a reasonable price be? I'd say a 2nd rounder + decent prospect, but we no longer have our 2nd rounder. Maybe a 3rd rounder this year + a 2nd rounder in 2013, plus...somebody?

If last year is any indication for price for rentals, I say low picks only, no prospects.

I used to have Spector bookmarked and I just sort of stopped visiting his site...
By the way, I heard one "Insider" say (sorry I listen to so many between 1200, 990 and CKOI I can't keep them straight) that there's legitimate interest in young Horcs as well.
