Don't want Penner. He is only dominant in the Silicon Valley Men's Softball League or whatever Dean Lombardi said before Laugh1

Meh, I'm more of a fan of Penner's than I am of Lombardi. Penner didn't play well in LA, granted, but he was also an awful fit. Some guys can't come into a room with 20 games left and find a comfort level. It took him a year to find it in Edmonton too. Give Penner a center like Spezza and a clear role on the team, I think he's a solid player. I have always liked Penner.

NEELY wrote:Yah, I don't get why Colorado did that for Varlamov... he's basically Leclaire without the one all-star season behind him, plus he's a flight risk.

As for the player Washington should deal, Semin without a doubt. If they dump that guy for anything near what they got for Varlamov, they should do it and run. They have enough talent without him to make a serious run at the cup.

The only player The Sens should be looking to trade for is a top 6 forward and I really believe Penner will be the guy they go after if they do indeed make a move, which is probably about 50/50, but LA does have to make a move.

I'll take Penner. Might be a good fit coming to a team where he'd be a vet... I'm sure he'll produce on a line with Spezza... most do. See Bulter and Regin

Why would the LA Kings move Penner? His value is fairly low right now because of Lombardi's comments and the Kings are rather weak on the wing already. They also have about 12 million in cap space, so I don't see how that's an issue.

Doughty needs a deal, they need some depth that's gonna cost money, and again, they don't really care for Penner all that much. You are right though, they are fairly shallow on the wing. The original point was that if Murray makes a move it will be for a guy like Penner, if not Penner hmself.

Ah, I guess I just misunderstood the main point. I don't think Penner is a great fit to be moved though, as he actually looks like the best fit to play 1st line LW at this point in time. Not a lot of top-six wingers available either, so I guess it just depends how sour they are on him.

Still think Vinny Prospal is the guy for a cheap, 1 year contract.

Laugh1 First, this Dung for brains trades Craig Anderson for Brian Elliott...then he trades a 1st round pick in the heart of a retooling + a 2nd round pick that will be high no matter what, for Varlamov - a guy who's definitely good, but nowhere near as good as Vokoun.

McPhee kills 2 birds there, he eliminates one destination for Vokoun to go to and he FLEECES Colorado.

Anderson plus a 1st and a 2nd for Varlamov. That's what it ends up being. We should re-visit this in a couple of years and put names up against those numbers. It'll make Redden's $6.5X6 OK by comparison.

Murray said our roster is set. They're looking for a specific type of role player/versatile forward that's about it.

Da Costa is in Ottawa all summer training, he may be physically ready by training camp. Zib might make the team and then there is Regin. Between the 3 of them, it'll sort itself out who makes the team and who doesn't.

Along with the defence pairings (and whether Rundblad and/or Cowen make the team) I think the roster is pretty much set.

That's Prospal to a T. He can play all 3 forward positions, he can score, he can play a 3rd line role. He's old, so he might come cheap-ish.

That deal is criminal. I don't even care if Lombardi never plays a game on that contract, either. Awful. NSH needed to dangle a guy like Franson to upgrade their offence, not to bring in safe, middling D while shipping out offence alongside him.

Yuck. Good day for Leafs nation, tho'.

I don't even understand that deal from Nashville's perspective. Sure, they ship out a bad contract, but seriously, what's the point? It's not like they need to save cap space. They have almost $30M in space right now. I don't get it. Confused!

I was thinking it must be a salary dump for Nashville so they can fit Weber into their internal cap. But they still have $13M in order to hit the cap floor.

It's almost as bad as the Varlamov trade, it might be worse. Franson for nothing at all. Criminal, Poile has lost his mind.

This is where Murray has to make sure his phone is charged at all times, teams do weird things when they either like a guy on the market, or have a huge contract to take care of in-house. Murray should be ear to the ground from here on...

I would expect the Devils to deal some salary to make room for Parise and Larsson (3+ million cap hit). If that's 9 million conservatively, then they need to clear a couple of million to be flexible. Eric Fehr, Salvador, maybe Colin White (doubt it), Rolston, Zubrus?

So if the Leafs traded Lebda... is there a chance the Sens could trade Kuba?
