This is where Murray has to make sure his phone is charged at all times, teams do weird things when they either like a guy on the market, or have a huge contract to take care of in-house. Murray should be ear to the ground from here on...

I would expect the Devils to deal some salary to make room for Parise and Larsson (3+ million cap hit). If that's 9 million conservatively, then they need to clear a couple of million to be flexible. Eric Fehr, Salvador, maybe Colin White (doubt it), Rolston, Zubrus?

So if the Leafs traded Lebda... is there a chance the Sens could trade Kuba?

We don't need Franson nor should we be taking on Marc Savard Jr. (Lombardi). It's a great trade for the Leafs but we're a bad fit.

We already pulled a fast one to get Filatov for a 3rd.

They said they're not shopping anyone, they've been trying to trade him for a while I think.

Might make more sense to keep him and flip him at the deadline, hopefully he plays better and increases his value.

Did I miss a trade? Isn't Fehr a Cap?

I meant that he has to have his ear to the ground on other teams doing similar things. Dumping cash is fine, but if the player is someone we want and the price is as low as it will be, then you have to think about it. Hopefully Murray's e-mailing each of the teams saying he has cap space and a top 6 opening, perhaps we'd make a good fit (for a soft trade).

And just because we stole Filatov (that remains to be seen), there's no rule we can't do it a couple more times with desperate teams.

That's not the first time I do that. There are a few teams that I love to mix up for one reason or another. I also blame it on the heat and last night. Smile

Tweeted by Kukla:
from Katie Carrera of Capitals Insider,

After the first day of free agency passed and Vokoun remained unsigned, his agent contacted the Capitals with an offer McPhee couldn’t ignore.

“We were told early yesterday that Tomas Vokoun wanted to play on a top team and that he would forgo a big deal to do it,” McPhee explained in a conference call Sunday.

The Capitals signed Vokoun to a one-year, $1.5 million deal, considerably less than what many predicted for a netminder who’s tied for the best save percentage in the league since 2005-06.

“The money side, it’s not great, but I think the opportunity is unbelievable,” Vokoun said in a conference call with reporters. “Obviously it was disappointing day for me on July 1. For whatever reason I was in a bad spot, and Washington came in.”

Nice to see that some hockey players aren't all about the $$$. TwoThumbsUp!

Sens might also be in on one of the Preds RFAs that got messed up, who knows?

I'm sure we are, these type of deals don't come along too often.

Filatov already IS a steal, to try out a #6 overall pick on your roster for only the cost of a 3rd is robbery. If he works out it's cause for Columbus GM to be fired on the spot.

I should've been clear: I agree, Filatov for a 3rd rounder is a huge steal even if he busts. I meant it remained to be seen if it's a steal on paper and in reality - though I still suspect it might be.

Dammit! Bergfors signs with Nashville. For real cheap too I'm sure.

Meh. Are we really looking for another RW? It would be nice to see if he'd work out here, but I think we have enough of a project in Filatov.

Isn't he a left winger?

Not according to every site that I've checked (hockeydb, wiki, hockeysfutures, etc).

Diddle, 575K. We could have taken that risk IMO. 20 goal child.

Where we going to play him ? We're stacked on RW with Butler and Alfie.

With Filatov we're set on LW as well. #2C is the only hole with 3 guys competing for the job.

The way I'd look at it is: ZERO risk, high reward, he can work for a spot out of camp, if he doesn't get it, he'll be the healthy scratch and if he doesn't prepare himself for games, he's gone. But, with a team full of Swedes, he's 21, he needs to mature, but he's ALREADY score 20+ goals in the AHL and the NHL. Should have grabbed him, that's a free prospect right there IMO - the equivalent to a first rounder too IMO.

The flip side is, he and his agent looked for teams with no depth up front and went from there.
