Diddle, 575K. We could have taken that risk IMO. 20 goal child.

Where we going to play him ? We're stacked on RW with Butler and Alfie.

With Filatov we're set on LW as well. #2C is the only hole with 3 guys competing for the job.

The way I'd look at it is: ZERO risk, high reward, he can work for a spot out of camp, if he doesn't get it, he'll be the healthy scratch and if he doesn't prepare himself for games, he's gone. But, with a team full of Swedes, he's 21, he needs to mature, but he's ALREADY score 20+ goals in the AHL and the NHL. Should have grabbed him, that's a free prospect right there IMO - the equivalent to a first rounder too IMO.

The flip side is, he and his agent looked for teams with no depth up front and went from there.

You're talking about a guy who has played 40 games at the NHL level. We're definitely not SET there.

If you give him a roster spot for doing nothing, that's a bad move. He has to earn it.

^ That's a reasonable qualification, right there. ThumbsUp

Fact of the matter is there is no one good enough or tallented enough to push Filatov out of a top 6 spot to start the year.

Exactly.

We're not giving him a spot but I think he'll make the team, whether he stays is another story. I can't believe we can't do better than Columbus.

The Sens are fine, they are good enough to be in every game almost every night and compete until the last week of the season. Will they get there? Probably not but they will be pushing other teams and themsevles to the end.

Hopefully they will, will a couple of blowouts cause a big losing streak ?

I haven't been this excited in a while, we gotta be better than Florida and the Islanders.

Not according to every site that I've checked (hockeydb, wiki, hockeysfutures, etc).

Umm, nope:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikita_Filatov
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=108670

He *shoots* right, but listed as a left winger. We had this discussion earlier somewhere.

The only question (in my mind) is whether he plays 1st line alongside Spezza, or 2nd line across from Alfie.

Coach will probably play it safe and have him on the 2nd line with Alfie.

Filatov describes himself as more of a passer although he said he shoots or passes more depending on his teammates.

Chemistry will be key with this guy, hopefully MacLean doesn't juggle the lines every shift like CC.

I think spader was referring to Niclas Bergfors.

Bergfors is RW:

Ah, the part at the end about Filatov threw me for a loop. He was comparing the two being projects, and I thought he was just saying how RW is already filled with Filatov.

Ha. Understood. No, I listing reasons why I couldn't care less at this point that Bergfors signed elsewhere. The first was that we're stacked on the right wing, the second was that Filly is enough of a project. Laugh1

I just noticed something that you'll all enjoy. Bergfors was just signed to a 1 year contract for $575k as you all know. Joel Ward was just signed to a 4 year contract for $12M, $3M per year (as you all know as well).

Bergfors has 81 career points in 162 games for a 0.5 PPG.

Ward has 99 career points in 241 games for a 0.41 PPG.

If we extrapolate a full season from each player with those numbers, $575k buys 41 points and $3M buys 34 points. Vertigo

Someone needs to fire his agent, someone else should buy his a great gift this holiday season. Laughing3

(And yes, I realize Ward had a good playoffs, but I can't believe that 12 good games represents that kind of a difference.)

It did make that much difference though, people saw that - and Bergenheim and shat themselves. Ward is also one of the nicest guys around apparently, while Bergfors has gone from scoring 20, to being waived, to not even being qualified. There MUST be something to that, he must be a real pain in the arse.
