Nice weather and huge money, I would sign there too if that's what was offered, especially guys who already have a cup.

Campbell? Sarcasm

Haha yah, exactly.

This does nothing to change the overall complection of the team. It's still a joke of a franchise that handed out stupid money becuase they needed to reach the cap floor.

A rookie coach that's going to come in without a true number 1 goaltender, no number 1 center, no real number 1 or 2 D man, and basically no scoring up front, Dineen is going to have his work cut out for him. Seems everyone goes down to Florida to retire, including NHLers.

Stupid money? What are you talking about? They got a 35 year-old Jovo locked into a 4 year contract for only $16.5M! He'll be worth a whole lot more than $4.125 when he's 39.

Paperwork being worked on between the Leafs and Tim Connolly. 2 year agreement @ $4.75 aav.

What does the "aav" mean?

Because he got them 1 game away from making in to the finals? It's amazing that even fans talk about how great teams like Florida, Buffalo, and other teams did when they "load up". They didn't load up, they overpaid for true 3rd line guys that are going to get 1st or 2nd line mins.

I love what Tampa did too, they did basically nothing. They decided to basically ice the exact same team as they did last year, goaltneder out. Why change anything?

It's not hard to say at all, the more things change the more they stay the same and UFA day in The NHL is proof of that. Florida will be out of the race by the end of Feb again and depending on Miller's season, Buffalo will finish between 7th-10th again. The teams that win or are truly rebuilding changed very little.

I have nothing against Roloson, but it's a scenario where he could fall off real quick. He's not exactly young.

The thing that baffles me about Florida is not really the signings, they got some character, they had no chemistry etc. etc. etc., but I don't understand where their prospects fit in now. And they signed everyone to such long term that they'll be stuck when their talent develops - which is gonna be like....now.

Buffalo, I liked the D signings, thought the Leino one was poor in term and $$, but they've developed some nice talent, time to try to go for it. Leino is a nice player, I've always liked him, Ehrhoff/Regher are solid additions to go with Ennis, Gerbe, Meyers, Miller, Roy (underrated player IMO), Vanek, Boyes. Nice, solid core IMO, didn't get weaker yesterday.

What Tallon is doing makes no sense. He won the lotto to get Kane in Chicago, Keith turned into one of the best D men in The NHL, and he took what was left when he took Toews 3rd overall. I used to think Burke was the most over rated GM in The NHL, he isn't, it's Tallon by a mile.

As for Buffalo, they have a player that has never really proven anything other than his play drops off big time in the playoffs for 10 years. That's insane. Miller will have to carry that team again because they really are no different with Conolly out and guys like Leino in. Yah, their backend might be a slight upgrade over last year, but it's not that much different.

The only UFA signing I can remember that changed the look of a franchise was Chara signing in Boston. The top teams get players they think fill a certain role on a team that has a strong core and a chance to win... yah, they may overpay for that player but their is a specific plan in place for that player. Buffalo, Florida, NYR, Columbus, their years will probably mirror theirs from last year and still struggle to make the playoffs, if they do, they will be out in round 1.

That's not a bad signing because they need a center. A little more money for a short term deal, makes a lot of sense from Burke and Toronto.

Don't mind it at all for the Leafs. The term is SO important here, we could have done similar to be honest, nice, short term, $$s are high, but you pay for lack of term on secondary players these days. Like it, should post numbers if healthy.

It's a perfect signing for them. They pay a bit to fill a glaring hole. Good signing. He'll be in the 55-65 point range.

It's funny to see people go off on the Leafs for this, when it's actually the right move for once.

I guess. I'd laugh at the bone-headed Cole signing way before I laugh at this one.

Afterwards, we can all laugh at the Jovo signing.

Very interesting: Cap Geek has Semyon Varlamov at a 3 year, $8.5 million deal w/ #Avs - bit.ly/m6DX1j

That's just wild.
is anybody still upset about the deal we gave Andersson?

To say nothing of the 1st and 2nd they had to give up on top of that.

Not sure why they did that. He's 35 years old too, so if he retires, his money stays on. Good luck unloading that in 3 years.

Ha. And they didn't even front-load it, so even if they try to unload the contract, he'll be making his cap hit up until he's 39. It's not like his cap hit is 4x his salary in the last year.

He'll be unmovable. They just signed him to an anchor contract. Laugh1

More likely "average annual value". Why they don't say "cap hit", which is what everyone knows, is weird. It's like they are distancing themselves from that term. With the CBA coming up for re-negotation makes you wonder.

Sounds like Gagne to LAK:

@LAKings
LA Kings
#LAKings reach verbal agreement with left wing Simon Gagne on two-year contract. More details to come.
