We'd be lucky to get Couturier at #6 (he's #5 on TSN's rankings). Here's what Bobby Mac had to say about Couturier:

While there has been much talk about Couturier's fall from grace, the scouts we talked to suggest reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. While it's true he doesn't appear to be the mix to legitimately challenge for first overall, two of the 10 scouts we surveyed still had him in their top three, seven of 10 have him solidly in the top 5, including four scouts who still ranked him ahead of Huberdeau.

Sounds promising. I think the worst case is we wind up with Strome...and that's probably not so bad.

The Panthers hold enough picks as it is in this draft and have picked quite a bit last year. Just not going to happen. Now fpr picks 4-5-6 there's a chance we could move up. Like people have said some of these teams might be interested in nabbing a D-man. But I'm afraid the draft might get Fowlered this year. NJ might look to lose parise so might be tempted to strike at Hub or couturier. NYI will likely not pass up a chance to nab another top line forward if its presented to them.
I can sympathize with Hemlock as our need is definitely a forward.
MY guess is we pick Strome at 6th.
Too many good forwards for D-men to get picked high.

IMO there might be quite a few very decent forwards available with the NSH pick. So no loss there.

Mega-trade with NJD for Parise? Wiercioch and the 6th pick for his rights? I realize it's crazy, but perhaps crazy....like a fox?

unfortunately they coud get more for parise then that.

An almost top-5 pick and a promising D-man prospect for the *rights* to negotiate? No thanks. If he was signed (and to a good cap hit deal) then I can see having to add more to even it out, but unsigned, to Ottawa, way too much.

If they deal his rights they'll deal with a team where is more likely to sign a long term deal.

Certainly not in mid-April. I'm sure we can all agree that he has a plan that includes several contingencies. It's not like he pulled that Rundblad trade out of his Donkey at the last minute and the Karlsson pick is also a good example of how he's prepared to make a move to get the exact player he wants.

Exactly. We'll see when the time comes. You also have to see how Nashville's does in the playoffs because if they make it to the conferance finals, that 1st rounder because at best a 27th overall and The Sens get an extra 2nd... little more to bargin with at that point.
