Certainly not in mid-April. I'm sure we can all agree that he has a plan that includes several contingencies. It's not like he pulled that Rundblad trade out of his Donkey at the last minute and the Karlsson pick is also a good example of how he's prepared to make a move to get the exact player he wants.

Exactly. We'll see when the time comes. You also have to see how Nashville's does in the playoffs because if they make it to the conferance finals, that 1st rounder because at best a 27th overall and The Sens get an extra 2nd... little more to bargin with at that point.

The conditional extra picks are for the 2012 draft.

Theory: The Sens will trade their own pick to move down to get the pick before or after the Nashville one, and pull a Burke in Vancouver and draft two players simultaneously. They will pick up either an extra pick or two, or a forward that was drafted in a previous draft (similar to the trade for Rundblad last year).

Well we still have our own 2nd rounder, Boston's 2nd rounder, and Chicago's 2nd rounder to play with. Did I miss any?

Doesn't matter. Sens traded their 3rd in 2009 to trade up and get Karlsson in 2008. An asset is an asset.

Ottawa's own 3rd as well. Pretty close to the same value as that Boston 2nd.

You could probably get away with trading something like Ottawa's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to move up to grab the player they want (Landeskog). Even if they give up a kid like Wiercoich, it's probably a good move.

This is just spit balling as I honestly have no idea who they will draft, who they will hire as coach, so on.

Why the hell would we do that? How often are we a lottery team, I'm really pissed that we dropped to 6, but if we outright trade our lotto pick? We're still going to get a good player with our pick, let's not get to infatuated with extra 2nd's, trust me we have enough.

I hate to break it to you SDH89, 6th ain't a lottery pick Sad

I think this will happen:

Ottawa gets lucky at 6 and selects one of Couturier or Huberdeau. Then Ottawa trades Nashville's pick + Ottawa's 2nd round pick to move up and select Zibanejad.

That would be quite pleasant to say the least, two nice pieces to move forward + 2 more 2nd rounders.

I'd rather get a winger with the Nash pick or via trading up if we're gonna pick Couturier. If we get Couturier we're set up the middle for years, IMO. Plus we got Slifverberg, Da Costa, etc. who could be used on the third line, which would be a third scoring line as opposed to a third line who grinds.

True, but can't Silf play both C and W? That is true though, there's almost no getting away from picking a C at 6.

We were a lottery pick before the lottery, now no one is a "lottery" pick. I think you are splitting hairs here as the point was something along the lines of "when do we ever draft this high?" or something to that effect.

Here's what I think will happen:

Sens have a couple of forwards they like, who are both gone by 6th, so Murray either drafts or trades for a defenceman. He then brings in yet another junior coach in Dave Cameron. And in the aftermath:

Plenty of season ticket holders don't renew as they have no confidence in this "plan", and some others find a new team to watch, one that knows how to either 1) compete for the Cussing playoffs or 2) actually make a losing season worth it by not winning a bunch of useless games at the end so as to give the mostly loser, fairweather fanbase a twinkle of false hope for next year.

Am I bitter much? When is Murray/Melnyk going to let the fans know what exactly this Cussing "plan" of theirs is, because I certainly haven't got a clue.

yeah that's a great point. How many of us had a 'WTF' moment when we heard he traded for some guy called Rundblad?

Purge some of the expensive, older players, bring in young players with upside (Butler, Greening, Condra, Rundblad, Cowen, 1st round pick, Da Costa), get a real goaltender (Anderson), make Bingo competitive so the kids can get some playoff experience (the B-Sens made it this year), have depth in the system for when injuries strike (D.Smith, Benoit, O'Brien, Wick, Gryba and so on), have a coach in place than is tough, but can handle and communicate with players (more to come), continue to build on the talent base we have by targeting a top 6 UFA (more to come).

What is it you don't get? The Sens are being built from the ground up acquiring talent to fit every position like Butler, Da Costa, etc. It's supposed to be slow - and it may be, but how do you not see the gameplan right now. It's about youth and hard work and lineup full of exciting, ultra competitive players.

We will draft one of: Couturier, Strome or Huberdeau depending on what teams above us draft. I do not see us trading up(not for lack of trying). Unless it's Couturier the drafted player will not make the team.

Couturier is also bilingual. Big thing for the French community :KKK:

I've been looking at some videos of him. Some good ones:

(Can't embed these for some reason)

I don't see how you can pass on him with his size and skill and two-way play (if he's available). But I haven't seen enough of Strome.

Couturier could very well be a solid fit in Ottawa. Any forward in the top 7 or 8 this year would probably be a pretty good fit. There is a chance in Ottawa to not only come right in and play but hit their potential a lot sooner than on a rebuilding team and perhaps over acheive.
