Waiting longer helps the acquiring team because then the prorated cap space they have will be greater. And Murray is waiting to hopefully increase the value in a bit of a bidding war.

Ruutu's type of player is more of a deadline day acquisition. A la Vaclav Varada when we got him, or Scott Walker of last year.

Yeah, it's all about patients with these guys. You need to wait until the last second IMO.

It is just risky because so many of the players we think/hope will be traded are very injury prone.

You would fly off the handle if Kovalev, Kuba, Gonchar and maybe Michalek got injured and their trade value dropped to nil prior to the deadline.

Sorry Bass Destruction and SpezDispenser, but I said this at 12:24 PM yesterday.

Does anything there mean anything to you now?

What the heck is going on with this franchise? I am so bitter right now.

Ya you're right, we should trade Spezza for a severe underpayment because he is injury prone. See what I did there?

You're a smart dude but this Kelly trade has you seeing stars I think, lol.

You can't catch me on that. If you read my posts, you only take early offers that you like (not severe underpayments), and also, only on players that are on the trading block.

There wouldn't be any offers on Spezza worth accepting and he is not on the block.

Haha. Your last comment has me giggling and is very true (the seeing stars part).

I knew what you meant, but waiting to gain value when (by all accounts) nothing of value has been offered for Gonchar, Kuba and Kovalev isn't such a bad idea (especially in the case of guys we have under contract), although I agree that in the case of UFA's it may be best to not try and wait teams out. Smile

Fair enough.

Prick. Haha.

Really? Chris Neil has a freakin' NMC?

Chris Neil, RW: Would be hard to believe they’d deal away one of their only elements of toughness. He has a no-movement clause. The Penguins and Habs both have interest.

Habs could sure use him. I don't really get the Penguins interest, though. Aren't they already leading the league in fighting majors? I'd say they need scoring wingers and a center, more.

Are we the Eastern Flames all of a sudden? While I don't want to see Neil traded, it seems weird that we're just hearing about this now, as it did when we heard about Kovalev's NTC (or NMC, I forget).

To add to that, I just read the article. He's a juicy bit of info that complements Clutch's revelation.

Milan Michalek, LW:
He hasn’t been asked to waive his no-movement clause, but there are several teams looking for scoring and Murray is listening.

Isn't it because Campoli and Gonchar are out for the Friday and Saturday games?

Benoit coming up is because Gonchar and Campoli are both injured. Carkner might be able to play tomorrow.

Dunno about Greening, but it sounds like there's a lot of banged up bodies. I wouldn't look at these call-ups as a signal that more trades are imminent.

The timing of these injuries is really annoying. Tough to trade guys that can't play.

Are you sure about this one, Michalek's I mean? Not only is that first I heard of it (& it would mean he waived it for us, which would be interesting), but I was under the impression that, under the CBA, you can't have a NTC / NMC until you're reached the point where you are / would be eligible for UFA status.

Spezza's NTC, for instance, kicked on on 1 July 2010, which was the moment he was eligible for UFA status. I don't think that was by choice; I think that was because that was all the CBA allowed Murray to give him. As I understand it (& I could be wrong), you can't have a NTC / NMC under the current CBA until you the time your reach UFA status (or the time that would have been your UFA status, if you're already signed).

EDIT: Oh, Garrioch wrote that article. That begins to explain it.

I think Garrioch is off-target on this one (surprise surprise).

As far as I know our NMC/NTC guys are: Spezza, Kovalev, Gonchar, Phillips

Everyone else either has an expired NTC or none at all.
