This statement annoys the hell out of me. It's a complete contradiction of itself.

Why is it a contraction / hypocrisy / illogical when we apply it to Phillips, but not to Alfie?

When he says 'help with the rebuild,' he obviously means, 'help to groom, guide, & mentor the kids.' Which is the only way we can justify holding onto Alfie, too. There are different ways to help with the rebuild. The example of Alfie makes that clear.

Alfie has a contract past this year. Phillips doesn't so really what he is saying is "I'd like to help the rebuild, if I am around." Phillips' situation seems more like Redden's situation in his last year than Alfie.

This whole thing worries me, and I mentioned it after the awful Kelly trade: I think Murray was forced to look at moving a guy like Kelly because he knows his UFA will either be worth very little, or won't waive. Either way he cannot complete his mandate of saving salary, and "re-tooling".

Phillips will take a pay cut to stay so technically, he is helping the rebuild by saving salary.

He told you this did he?

Isn't that what we thought about Redden too? Look how that worked out. However, let's entertain this idea shall we. Let's suppose that he signs for $2.5 million per. If he plays like he does this year how is that helping? We'd be no further ahead. The chances of him turning this around on a worse team seems unlikely to me.

QUICK HIT: It seems Gonchar and Campoli will not be playing on the weekend. One of the callups from Bingo is Andre Benoit, who will be playing in his first NHL game Friday night vs. the Boston Bruins

Fair enough. I just couldn't come up with a name. Was just trying to indicate "Veteran goaler"/Elliott. Thought I covered that with "something along those lines."

Maybe Emery will be available Smile

His hummer misses him.

Ya, we're pretty tight like that...
You really wouldn't take him back at 2.5 per? Even considering the possibility that our veteran presence when all is said and done could be down to Spezza and Alfie, so no veteran presence on the back end?

Lots of twitter-chatter about Neil, suggesting Montreal, Boston and Vancouver as possible destinations. No idea if any of these are actual rumours or fans hoping, but it's interest, in either case.

With Kelly gone, if Neil is traded (which I think is very likely given the recent events) we'll be down to just two 'Chris's.

Ahhhhh!

Murray can go to hell.

I don't care how well he drafts, he has no clue how to trade; no clue whatsoever.

He can not have anything to do with this deadline anymore.

Waiting longer helps the acquiring team because then the prorated cap space they have will be greater. And Murray is waiting to hopefully increase the value in a bit of a bidding war.

Ruutu's type of player is more of a deadline day acquisition. A la Vaclav Varada when we got him, or Scott Walker of last year.

Yeah, it's all about patients with these guys. You need to wait until the last second IMO.

It is just risky because so many of the players we think/hope will be traded are very injury prone.

You would fly off the handle if Kovalev, Kuba, Gonchar and maybe Michalek got injured and their trade value dropped to nil prior to the deadline.

Sorry Bass Destruction and SpezDispenser, but I said this at 12:24 PM yesterday.

Does anything there mean anything to you now?

What the heck is going on with this franchise? I am so bitter right now.

I'm done venting.

Let's hope the Sens outdoor practice today helped to boost the teams morale a little bit.

I don't think Gonchar's getting moved regardless until the summer, but you can't just sit him out while you try to make a deal.

Ya you're right, we should trade Spezza for a severe underpayment because he is injury prone. See what I did there?

You're a smart dude but this Kelly trade has you seeing stars I think, lol.

I never said to sit players out that are injury prone. You said something along the lines of, that you should wait till the last second and create a bidding war on certain players. My point was, that if you have oft-injured players on your roster, you can't wait to trade them. If you, as a GM, have a trade you like; pull the trigger before the gun jams on you.

Gonchar may have done just that last night, a mere 8 hours after I stated my case.

You can't catch me on that. If you read my posts, you only take early offers that you like (not severe underpayments), and also, only on players that are on the trading block.

There wouldn't be any offers on Spezza worth accepting and he is not on the block.

Haha. Your last comment has me giggling and is very true (the seeing stars part).

I knew what you meant, but waiting to gain value when (by all accounts) nothing of value has been offered for Gonchar, Kuba and Kovalev isn't such a bad idea (especially in the case of guys we have under contract), although I agree that in the case of UFA's it may be best to not try and wait teams out. Smile
