Waiting longer helps the acquiring team because then the prorated cap space they have will be greater. And Murray is waiting to hopefully increase the value in a bit of a bidding war.
Ruutu's type of player is more of a deadline day acquisition. A la Vaclav Varada when we got him, or Scott Walker of last year.
Yeah, it's all about patients with these guys. You need to wait until the last second IMO.
It is just risky because so many of the players we think/hope will be traded are very injury prone.
You would fly off the handle if Kovalev, Kuba, Gonchar and maybe Michalek got injured and their trade value dropped to nil prior to the deadline.
Injury potential aside, if you're too "patient" teams go in another direction and you're left holding the bag.
