I also feel that this is the first warning shot to the entire team. No one is safe, you've all sucked so badly that we're just not gonna blame the coach (instead we'll march him out in the summer). So the players are responsible, before they might have thought it was not gonna happen, now they can all see the writing on the wall. The core of tired, old players need to be purged - with the exception of Alfie. So it starts now, very pleased.

That was to set the price abnormally high - no one was paying a 1st + a good prospect, impossible. We got the 1st, we got the 3rd (it sounds like) + we didn't have to take a Lupul-style dump.

That's why I assumed it was a poison pill. No intention of trading Fisher but being able to say "we tried but didn't get the price we wanted." Happy to see I was wrong.

listening to the radio, a lot of "season ticket holders" stating they are not renewing next year.

Funny, but we're going to see whether this town truly is a hockey town and they will support a rebuild or whether they wanted to stay an average team. I hate to say it because he was a great guy in the community, but he was part of the "core" of this team that never did it. They never met or exceeded expectations and at some point when it's not working out you have to change.

It has to be done and there are more going to leave to rebuild. I no longer want a bunch of players who are good in the community, not if it means we have an average team. I want a-holes who can play the game and win.

I think that depends on what you mean by good prospect and project. I think this return is fair considering Fisher's cap hit. We have to think of the fact that no salary came back almost as though that was a separate component of the trade. These days, that's almost as valuable as another player.

I'm happy with the return. I don't think, in the Salary Cap Era, that we can look at the trade purely on the basis of the individual value of the player to the team. The cap savings have quite a bit of value too. If we sign an FA this summer, or pick up a player in an Atlanta-like trade, you'll have to consider that player as a part of this deal, in a sense.

They'll change their tune when the team starts winning. Which will be sooner rather than later with this trade.

Me too. I thought it was to tell other teams that he's not really available - glad to see Murray do something pro-active. I also believe I said that if Fisher got moved, then the rebuild was officially on. Can't remember where I said it, or what the exact phrase was, but it was something like "until Fisher gets traded, it's a re-tool. If Fisher is traded, then I'll believe the rebuild." Well...Fisher got traded and I still think it's a re-tool. How hard is it to replace Fisher? Not very IMO. He was doing sweet jack Dung.

Precisely. Murray is taking full advantage of our current position and aggressively starting the wheels in motion to reload for next season.
