Make it 2-on-2 and I'd actually like that. Though to have that for 60 mins is gonna get old real fast no? Maybe an addition to the skills competition but can't actually replace the game itself.

This is strictly for the speed and shooting competitions. I am excited to see how this years draft style format will work. for the players to be able to select from any player in the NHL regardless of conference has the potential for a lot of excitement. Imagine a defence pairing of Lidstrom-Karlsson?

I love it. I've always thought it was silly to determine who has the hardest shot (or who is fastest, or whatever) amongst the all-stars without determining who is number one in the entire league. I'd love it if they could find a way to fit this into the skills comp.

This should really be a no-brainer.

Which brings up another issue. I think players, nowadays, want the All-Star Break to be a break whether they are playing or not. For that reason, I doubt you can improve the game at all.

Absolutely...

I know of several situations where the players had to alter travel plans (this year it was Karlsson) because they didn't think they were going to the ASG and had booked a trip. The NHL implemented (correct me if I am wrong) something last year that said if you didn't play in the ASG without a medical reason then you couldn't play in x amount of games after...I thought anyway they did and the skuttlebutt surrounded Lidstrom for one.

This year the NHL isn't happy about Malkin or Crosby, and while they don't doubt they are hurt, they are very suspicious that they are not able to play in the ASG but look like they will return for the first game after.

Money talks unfortunately.

Cisco needs to give each member of the winning roster $20,000.00 for there efforts; the losers nothing.

The 6, 5 or 4 players that are on the ice for the team that scores the final goal of the game also recieve and additional $10,000.00 each.

Cisco spends an extra $500,000.00 to be the major sponsor of the game, but they end of with a more exciting game, which means, more fans tuning in. Their advertising audience grows and proportionally, so would their name, product and sales.

Money talks to the players and they would play for this. Most of them would donate the money to their charity of choice, but they would play for the money either way.

No link, but Chris Stevenson mentioned in on Montreal radio today and it was bantered about on the FAN 590 earlier this week.

I am sure you now the background to this story.

In 2009, Datsyuk and Lidstrom were suspended for the first regular season game proceeding the All-Star game for failing to attend the festivities due to injuries - and short notice actually.

It is fine to be injured and not able to play in the game, but Bettman expects the injured to show up and schmooze with sponsors and fans.

Crosby attended in 2009. Datsyuk and Lidstrom did not and their season was shortened by one game due to suspension.

Crosby is in attendance for this year, so I haven't heard any rumblings of discipline.

It is a good twist, but very predictable early round selections.

Now that it is into the later rounds, the less obvious personal biases will be tougher to foresee.

Respect amongst players will eventually take over once the six degrees of seperation run out - if it ever does.

Predictable. Bs. Did you really know ward would go 1st. Easy to say that now. Regarless I've never been this interested in an NHL event. Much more interested then what I thought I'd be. I'd definitely watch this in tge future and I bet other leagues will strongly consider this. I just hope karlsson goes to lidstrom

I couldn't agree more. If he becomes gm of Ottawa I'll actually want to see them fail
