Vancouver is getting ripped off HARD in that Fisher deal. Fisher + Shannon for Schneider wouldn't even cut it, now you're adding Bieksa?!?!

Frolov isn't a guy you want to have in a rebuild (or in any situation). He's useless now.

Connolly is the same type of player whom we have a bunch of. Talented but injury prone. Pass.

Shane O'Brien is a headcase. He's a decent d-man though.

Schneider is an ufa afternext year and is not going to sign to be vancouvers back up for the next 5-6 years. He will want to be a number one somewher-Fisher and shannon add more grit to their forward ranks which you need for a cup run. Schneider is going to be available and ottawa needs to make an attempt to get him. Bieksa is an ufa next year and i would rather have him than phillips-if vancouver doesn't think they can keep him he will be available as they have depth on defence.

frolov is a chance i agree, but when he is on he can put on a show and you have to sell tickets even in a rebuild

obrien is a shot blocker and will fight. If we are doing a rebuild and bringing in youth you need someone to protec them other than Carkner.

Thanks for posting that link, Shabbs.

Wow, Phillips and Alfredsson are on opposite side of the same question. Does this announcement make a difference? Phillips says, no, it's still business as usual, you go out and practice hard, play and try to win. Alfredsson says it'll make a difference because people can now relax (my word) and not worry about what might or might not happen.

Yeah, easy for you to say, with $4M+ coming in for another two years after this one.

I've seen this before, earlier in the season, where Clouston would say one thing and Alfredsson would disagree -- publiclly, I might add. For the record, Clouston also mentioned that this will not affect how he acts (at least now he won't need to wonder if today's going to be the day, I guess); but at least he said he didn't know how the players would react.

Alfie's been on a different page from Clouston on a couple of occasions already, and now he's also disagreeing (not the best word) with Phillips.

If we have a problem at the core -- as we've been saying for quite a while -- is it possible that the problem lies with Alfie?

Again, are they re-tooling or re-building, there's a huge difference here.

If they're gonna trade Fisher, Alfie, Kelly, Gonchar as well as Kuba, Phillips, Kovalev etc., then we're rebuilding. If they say that they want to keep Spezza, Fisher, Alfie, Gonchar, Kelly, Neil, then it's a re-tooling.

There's still a big element of 'I'll see the rebuild when Fisher is moved'.

I'm surprised that it doesn't bother anyone that this magical plan is apparently in motion without the participation of current management.

I don't see anything other than "Nothing's happening this year but everything will be A-OK, folks."

Thanks, Gene! NOT!

The deadline is a big time for us - unless they're gonna move Fisher in the summer. Not sure why we're staying with Murray if he's leaving the position after the season...hope it works. Ahhhhh!

Fisher is an irresistible force AND immovable object in this town. He will finish his career in Ottawa. I love you

Okay, that's fine. As long as his career ends in two years.

No. I predict a splashy presser where he is made a Sen for life right around the trade deadline in the final year of this deal :D

Book it.

Not really. Mikey will give us a break and accept the same cap hit he currently has on a front-loaded deal. He's all about the team, after all. I love you

From Chirp:

I mentioned this in the comment section but there some info sent my way a couple weeks ago that talked about Eugene's plan for the organization moving forward. Here is what one contact had to say...

"It sounds like the Sens owner is prepared to try his own approach for the remainder of the season.

I understand that he is aiming to take a more business-like approach to the team and assemble a group of consultants to map out the direction of the franchise both on and off the ice, including a thorough overhaul of drafting/scouting, contract policy, a restructuring plan for Binghamton up, etc.

Presumably a new general manager would be at the head of this group, and it would function much in the same was that the national teams are selected for the Olympics."

Interesting.

Dash wrote:Anyone scared about having the 1st or 2nd overall pick? Who do you choose? And there's so much pressure to make the right choice. Look at 2009 - Tavares #1, Hedman #2 and Colorado basically is given the easiest choice in Duchene.

If you have the (#1/#2/#3/#4) pick, who do you choose if you are the GM of the Senators?

Assuming the top 5 is: Couturier, Larsson, Nugent-Hopkins, Landeskog and Saad.

If you have the #1, do you take Larsson? Do you take Couturier? Nugent-Hopkins? Or do you trade that choice to another team and pick up another selection in the process?

They have good scouts, if they see a superstar, a "game changer" as melnyk says, they'll take him.

Regardless, I can't wait to hear McGuire's reaction to this tomorrow morning.
