October-November-December and part of January. That's "a few months" when you consider it against the backdrop of his career.

Listening to the guys on TSN last night, they seem almost convinced that Phillips will be traded. Was it me or did everyone else feel that McGuire was showing a lot of love for Sens. Talking about Alfie and his love for tennis. Are we about to hear that McGuire is the front leader for the GM job? Murray mentionned last night that he has considered retiring.

The only way that Phillips won't be traded is if he refuses to waive his NTC.

Also, if I were McGuire, I'd show lots of love for the Sens too. Never hurts to suck up to your potential future employers!

I still think it might be Tim Murray who takes over, but it's hard to say at this point. Not sure how "tight" Tim Murray is with Melnyk.

Part of me wouldn't mind seeing Philips go. The less of the "old guard" we have around the better. I keep going back to Heatley's statement as well.

The only reason to keep Philips is that him and EK seem to play best together.

Precisely.

These are the same sort of people who wanted Alfie traded 4-5 years ago. Just don't know.

Maybe the same people that want Phillips back are the ones that were ecstatic that Kuba was re-signed too? Sarcasm

If he's back, fans will be complaining about him for years to come.

There's no telling that Phillips wouldn't be resigned here in the off-season, and he would truly just be a rental. I like Phillips as much as the next Sens fan, but it's time to do what we can to stock the cupboard.

If I were Phillips, I wouldn't mind a shot at the playoffs/Cup anyway.

This Winchester kid is growing on me. I kinda like him.

I want phillips back in red and gold next season. I don't care how that happens....but best case scenario is certainly trading him and re-signing him in the summer

Alfredsson was really good last night. As the captain, he needs to be like that ALL THE TIME since he's more of a lead by example kinda guy.

The team is only as good as Alfie is it seems.

I'm gonna say not in this case, only because you made a blanket statement point where you implied you don't want Phillips back at all. If Phillips takes a massive pay cut and stays on as our #4/#5 guy do you really think anyone would complain/have reason to complain about him?

I don't want him gone, but I would not hesitate to trade him to a contender if he was going to re-sign with us next year.

I don't think the people wanting Alfie traded is a good comparison. They're not nearly at the same level in terms of impact to the team. TBH I don't think we have a true captain for the future.

Which is all the more reason to keep Phillips around. They guy isn't going to be a top performer forever (heck we've seen part of the decline already) but what he can be is a steady presence on and off the ice.

I think it's risky to trade him at the deadline and hope to re-sign him in the summer to be honest, that being said in a perfect world we get to keep him and add assets. What I don't wanna see is us trade him at the deadline for a 3rd or something on the assumption he comes back only to see him sign with a contender.

If he wants to stay in the city and is willing to take a small cut for term I'm thinking there will always be a place for him here in Ottawa.

I could live with that, but I get the sense that that's harder to bring about than most of us give it credit for.

Yeah, I guess that would be "ideal" if they can pull it off, without getting caught. I'm sure that's a "no no" with the NHL.
