could we send kovalev to LA? Sarcasm we'll take some prospects back. they were after kovalev when we signed him... maybe they want him now?
Lombardi always loses out on the big deals kovalev sounds like a plan B to me(well more like a plan E really, but you know what i'm saying.)

Phillips should snag us a first and prospect with the need for D men and the availability of D being pretty limited. Vancouver has been hit hard with injuries on the back end as has San Jose. I see Phillips' value steadily going up. The big question now is will he waive his NTC?

That's why I say wait until the last second to move Phillips. Let the bidding war heat up to its highest level before finally moving him. Kuba might actually go with the lack of teams selling + the lack of quality D-men (although I realize it's Kuba we're talking about).

The nice thing is that Phillips is NOT particularly injury prone so there's not a lot of risk in waiting to trade him until the last minute ...

You better knock on wood right away.

As we approach the February 28th deadline, three 1st round picks have been moved, and that's not including LA, Atlanta, Phoenix, and quite possibly Detroit's 1st rounders.

What am I missing? We got Nashville's first (1), Toronto got Philly's first (2), what's the third first rounder that moved? Is he counting Toronto's first to Boston in the Kessel trade?

Good question, that must have been a typo.

I hope not. They're probably trying to trade Leighton back to us instead since we will need a goalie. I haven't lost faith in Ells and i hope he sticks around for next season (despite what everyone else thinks). Of course, we need to sign another bonafide number one goalie who doesn't get injured when he stretches so Elliott can excel in his role as backup

I'd sooner see Elliott dealt than continue to see Ottawa fans $hit on him all the time.

I agree. I want Elliott as backup next season.

Meh, backups are a dime a dozen. I still like Elliott as well, but it depends on the offer.

Problem is that means you've totally given up on Elliott. He's still young and far from a bust IMO.

Translation: he has value in the trade market.

I've always supported Elliott - but he's far from untouchable. I'd like to have him back next season to backup whoever we get, but if the Flyers like him a lot and are willing to part with a decent pick/prospect, we cannot say no IMO.

Seeing what the goalie market is, I highly doubt the flyers will part with a young piece for a former 9th round draft pick who's struggling mightily in the NHL at this point. No way in hell especially after giving up a 1st rounder for Versteeg.....is that two 1sts they've given up in a row? (pronger deal?)

More than 2 1sts because Pronger along carried 2 firsts, so at least 3.

And if they don't want to give us anything of value, no deal.

Having lost out on Francois Beauchemin to the Anaheim Ducks, the Sharks have turned their attention towards Chris Philips of the Ottawa Senators. My source from San Jose has suggested that Sharks have offered young forward Devin Setegochi for the veteran defenseman. However, the Senators are not keen on absorbing contracts and have requested picks or prospects. Could a 1st be attached to Setegochi? I will hopefully have more on this development by the end of the week. But the Sharks may want to hurry; as the trading deadline looms near, other teams have made initial offers for Philips. It is believed that the Vancouver Canucks might have been interested at some point, but they have chosen to wait for more medical updates on their depleted defensive corps. A Calgary Flames' source suggested that the management team are desperate to make the playoffs, and have made inquiries to Ottawa. This should present an interesting storyline for the trading deadline as I believe that any deal involving Philips will immediately raise the stakes for teams keying in on the Toronto Maple Leafs' Tomas Kaberle, as it is believed he has made some compromise with GM Brian Burke regarding his NTC.
i'm not sure anymore i'd want the gutch but that 1st is a starting point... tack on a nice prospct and we're looking at something...
i think it's a good season for trades. teams seem to be paying high prices... Smile

I think the possible reasoning behind this is that SJ is saying you want our 1st round pick then you have to take Seto. Well Ottawa should say.. if you want Phillips -- you also take Kuba. But if they have to unload salary they will not do that.

So what would they give up for him? Their 2nd round pick this year? That's all they have left.. unless a prospect is what's coming back alone or with it.

If you can get a 1st + Setoguchi for Phillips, you take it. That's a pretty good deal, and I'm not even a big Seto fan.
