More talk of The Gooch coming to Ottawa for young Philly. More to come.

Oh good, we could use another streaky forward with exactly one good season under his belt. And here I was worried.

Everyone loves The Gooch!

On a more serious note, I'm surprised there's not more talk of Atlanta dealing with Ottawa. What are their needs?

I don't think we need anymore of San Jose's one season wonders... they already stuck us with two.

Atlanta needs someone willing to take Bergfors I bet, maybe Ben Eager ?

Ottawa should be willing to take at least one or even both. Looks like Atlanta could use help with more grit at C. I doubt Little is playoff material.

I don't really know. My first thought would be a serious sniper, but this looks like the most solid lineup that team has ever had. They've bought into the team approach rather than the build around one guy approach. It's working. They are solid in goal, and boast two of the higest point getting D-man in Enstrom (on pace for around 68 points) and Byfuglien (who's leading D-men in scoring and is on pace for 70+ points), in addition to solid guys like Bogosian and Oduya.

Oh yeah, part of the "no-name" New Jersey D. "No-name" because media windbags kept calling it "no-name." Any moderately knowledgeable hockey fan knew that Oduya was rock solid. Real nice addition to the Thrashers there.

I've heard this from a few sources now. Kuba would make a pretty good fit in COL if you ask me...

He still flies under the radar. He played for Sweden in the Olympics, and quietly does his thing. Same as a Douglas Murray type of player, although Murray is more of a straight shutdown type.

Part 3 of STD:

You would think the Oilers are sellers? Maybe not. I keep hearing about fringe talks the Oilers are having with the Senators about Jason Spezza, who the Oilers have always liked. Much depends of course on the Senators intentions, but there have been some powerful indications the Sens are looking to completely tear this down.

STD Analysis: Vague, even by HB standards. I will eat my hat if anyone of significance waives a NTC for Edmonton. Could a tear down happen? I hope so. The powerful indications must be how much the Sens suck.

Has the Suck-O-Meter been invented yet? If not, somebody invent a time machine so we can go into the future and bring one back to see where the Sens are really at right now. I'm really curious.

I must be missing something, but must admit that this isn't a thread title I delve into all that often.

What does STD mean when referencing the Sens? Why should I give any of these rumours more than a second of thought? Where are these thoughts coming from?

It's a re-tool now, the more I think about it, rebuild isn't an option that Melnyk will agree to - and really, the more I think, the less I think we're in a sell everyone mode.

GONE:
Jarkko Ruutu - 3rd roudner or prospect hopefully
Alex Kovalev - 3rd rounder or prospect hopefully
Pascal Leclaire - swap for a salary dump + LONG term prospect - the equivalent of a Cody Bass
Filip Kuba - still warrants some consideration from playoff teams as a number 5 guy - not sure what his trade value is. Low right now, might have to try again in the summer

QUESTION MARK:
Chris Phillips - 2nd rounder and high prospect OR blue chip forward prospect OR 1st rounder - I hope I'm not wrong here, I'd hate just to get a 2nd roudner. Or the Sens could just as easily re-sign him for 3 million X 3 years as a key veteran towards the retool.

Sergei Gonchar - seriously doubt he's moved, but if he is it'll be next summer. About a 5% chance he's moved IMO.

Nick Foligno/Peter Regin - I can see one of them being moved in a package for a bigger fish, but that would be a shame if it's Regin

Campoli has a chance of being moved, but it won't be for nothing.

I think Ryan Shannon is retained at league minimum

STAYING
Jason Spezza
Daniel Alfredsson
Milan Michalek
Mike Fisher
Erik Karlsson
Matt Carkner
Chris Kelly
Chris Neil
Jesse Winchester
Brian Elliott
Zack Smith

So, the possibility exists that up to 15 of 20 players will return - if we shed some, then it'll still be in the 11 or 12 range. That's not a rebuild, that's a re-tool.
