Meh, there's nothing else going on in the hockey world - besides the playoffs, which are exciting and all, but...

Is that the guy who wants Strome so badly?

Move from 6th to say 3rd...
And try to move the 21st (Nashville) pick up to top 10?
Or would it cost too much to do that.. in way of picks & prospects/current roster players.
I really think it would cost Nashville's pick to move up to 3rd. I really believe that. If I was a GM, I wouldn't let Ottawa move up to 3rd unless I was getting a really nice pick out of it. Maybe I'd do it for Foligno and the 6th overall, but I'd prefer the 6th overall and the 21st overall for the 2nd/3rd overall.
I'm not sure if people would think that's overpayment on our part, but that's what I would demand.
The more I hear about these prospects, the less inclined I am to give up anything of much value to move up a few spots. The more discussion I hear, the more I think it likely that we do nothing, or nothing major, in terms of jockeying for position in the 1st round.
We've got 6 picks inside the top 65. There's no pressing need to change that. We're going to come out of June 24/25 with our prospect shelves substantially re-stocked, and that's what matters.

Yeah, the guy I would move up for is Landeskog, but the more I hear about his upside, the more I think we should take our chances with the 6th overall as they're all fairly similar.
The more I hear of Huberdeau and Couturier, the more appealing they sound too. So, I think we're in relatively good position.

The thing is that none of RNH, Lando, Huberdeau, Couturier or Strome could be around at 6th. Odds are that one of them will be with Larsson going somewhere high. But I don't want to be picking up the scraps, which is where the Sens could find themselves.
To me, the end of this season sucked. I feel like the Florida Panthers, who continually suck, and never end up with a high enough pick to nab a franchise player, rather than doing it right and sucking all the way to grab a guy at the top of the draft, like Tampa has recently with Stamkos and Hedman. Given the two choices, I'd much rather follow the Tampa model.

The other thing is, one of RNH, Lando, Huberdeau, Couturier, Strome, and Larsson will be available at 6th. From everything that I've heard, we'll get an NHL player regardless. I share your frustration that we didn't end up with a better pick, but I think we'll still improve considerably this draft.

That's my point. One of them will be, but it's out of our control. I'd rather have sucked Donkey all year to have had the chance to have our pick of the litter rather than take what's left over. Like I said, we are following the Florida model, not the Tampa model.
Nothing to say that we might not next year. We could finish bottom 3 next year. Andersson could suffer a season ending injury.hemlock wrote:spader wrote:hemlock wrote:
